MAJOR DUTIES: Major Duties: Ensures all (100+) government horses and mules are properly shod including corrective shoeing when required. Performs minor veterinary treatment on NPS owned horses and mules. Is responsible for corral operations on weekends. Is responsible for the inventory of horse and mule shoeing supplies including horse shoes, mule shoes, nails, and horse shoeing tools. Instructs Animal Packers in proper and professional horse and mule shoeing procedures. Ability to drive a truck towing a three-horse trailer on winding, mountain roads in all weather conditions. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments but don't work on a year-round basis. Pay status will be for 25 pay periods from mid December through end of November and will be in a non-pay status for one pay period in December. The position will be in non-pay status for one pay period the first service year. This may change for future service years depending on workload and budget; however, you will be notified by the supervisor in advance of any upcoming change to the non-pay period for the following year.
