Job Description
The Emergency Management Professional plays a vital role in supporting the preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation efforts within the organization. This position involves supporting the planning, coordinating, and implementation of various emergency management programs, procedures, and training activities to ensure the organization’s readiness for any emergency situation. The ideal candidate will have broad knowledge across all phases of emergency management and be adaptable, resourceful, and detail-oriented with excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Planning and Preparedness:
Contribute to the development and maintenance of emergency response plans, continuity of operations plans, and hazard-specific procedures. Participate in risk assessments and emergency preparedness exercises.
Training and Exercises:
Contribute to the planning, development, and execution of staff training programs and exercises. Ensure participants are equipped with essential knowledge and skills for emergency situations. Contribute to tabletop and full-scale exercises to assess and enhance response capabilities. Lead onboarding and quarterly NEO training, as well as contractor and vendor training.
Response Coordination:
Provide logistical and administrative support during emergency incidents. Contribute to the coordination of response efforts, communicate with key stakeholders, and offer real-time support as situations evolve.
Recovery Operations:
Contribute to the development and implementation of recovery strategies to facilitate a timely return to normal operations following an incident. Work with internal and external partners on recovery tasks.
Policy Development:
Contribute to the creation, review, and update of emergency management policies and procedures, ensuring they align with best practices, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
Communication:
Help develop and disseminate emergency communications, alerts, and updates. Maintain relationships with local, state, and federal emergency management agencies and partners.
Documentation and Reporting:
Contribute to maintaining accurate and timely documentation of all emergency management activities, including after-action reports, improvement plans, and compliance records.
Emergency Operation Systems:
Support the centralized collection, validation, analysis, and coordination of information related to emergencies, working alongside emergency responders to ensure effective on-scene support.
Emergency Facilities and Equipment/Systems:
Maintain and ensure the readiness of equipment, including the LRAD, Red Phone, PA systems, and all Emergency Operations Center (EOC) resources, to support effective emergency response operations.

Basic Qualifications
Relevant Bachelor's Degree and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Master's Degree and 3 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant PhD or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant JD or equivalent relevant education/experience. Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines. Considerable knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to specific field. Strong leadership, project management and problem solving skills. Ability to use various computer software programs.
Additional Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Public Safety, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Strong interest in emergency management, disaster response, and community resilience.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Basic understanding of emergency management principles, including the Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn emergency management software and tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Internship or volunteer experience in emergency management, public safety, or related fields.
- Certification in ICS, NIMS, or related emergency management courses.
- Familiarity with emergency planning, community outreach, or training development.
