ABOUT THE JOB
The Tepa Companies are seeking an Environmental Specialist to work alongside Scientists and Engineers, Project Managers, and Technical Professionals on a wide variety of environmental remediation, investigation, and compliance projects for a variety of clients. As an Environmental Specialist, you will provide field work planning, environmental sampling, data management support, data quality review, results reporting, subcontractor oversight, writing work plans, monitoring, and tracking project metrics, following deliverable schedules, providing technical reviews, maintaining, and updating environmental databases, and applying quality assurance and quality control checks.
In this role, you will function as an environmental professional, assisting with the management and reporting of environmental data, including sample analysis results, location surveys, groundwater levels, and well construction details. You will handle the loading of both routine and non-routine data sets into databases and data systems from diverse sources such as laboratories, surveyors, spreadsheets, and well logs, including those not assisted by EQuIS. Familiarity with environmental data and EDDs, as well as data quality control processes, is essential. Your responsibilities will include evaluating data sets for completeness and correctness, working effectively with a team of data management analysts to develop corrective actions and improvements to environmental data management processes, and reviewing data for quality assurance and ongoing quality control. You will also support end-users with database applications and develop specialized reports for environmental documents. A strong interest in improving data skills, particularly in SQL, is important, as is a satisfaction in ensuring all data is accurate. Ideal candidates will have experience identifying patterns, tracking down issues, and may have a background in field or lab work. Additionally, you will collaborate in developing requirements for new environmental data reporting tools and processes, contributing to the continuous enhancement of our data management systems.
Job Functions:
- Assists project team in all project phases including planning, data collection and management, project documentation, field sampling, site assessment activities, and technical report writing.
- Supports the preparation of work planning documents and associated deliverables.
- Prepares environmental technical data summary reports.
- Performs data and documentation quality assurance/quality control reviews and supports the production of effective technical reports.
- Executes activities and workflow to meet established program goals and objectives.
- Maintain open communication with project staff regarding all issues and develop resolutions.
- Performs tasks in a safe manner.
- Travels to client and project sites as needed.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Bachelor’s degree in geology, engineering, environmental sciences, or a related field
- 0-3 years of experience in an environmental field
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients
- Demonstrated effectiveness in building working relationships and interacting with multidisciplinary teams
- Strong interpersonal, logical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks to meet multiple schedule deadlines.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office products, especially Word and Excel.
- Strong attention to detail.
Preferred, not required:
- 40-hour Occupational Safety and Health Administration Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) and annual refreshers
- 8-hour Occupational Safety and Health Administration Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Supervisor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration 30-hour Construction Safety Supervisor
- Familiarity with GIS mapping and data analysis
- Experience compiling, analyzing, and reporting on technical data from a variety of sources including reports, field observation, testing results, tabular data, databases, and other existing reports and figures
- One (1) internship completed in relevant field.
