1.1 Job Scope Summary
The Environmental Officer responsible for the compliance with environmental regulations and targets for the administration of the company environmental policies, and procedures, supporting the plants continued operation in compliance with regulatory and corporate environmental regulations and procedures, federal and state environmental regulations, output requirements and contractual obligations.
1.2 Job Responsibilities
The Environmental Officer manages the companys Environmental programs and development, policies, and procedures to prevent, eliminate, control and reduce work related hazards and maintain environmental responsibility
Performs the tasks concerning compliance with legal requirements and improvement measures of the Integrated Management System (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 50001) in conformance with the relevant norms, rules and regulations.
These tasks include in particular:
- Develop, maintain and manage all documentation related to Environmental Management System to ensure compliance with ISO14001 Guidelines, and ensure all plant specific compliance requirements
- Provide environmental support and advice to QHSE Manager and Plant Team as required
- Maintain relations with external parties (e.g. regulator, local authorities) in areas associated with environment and accompanying them during their site visit and provision of necessary information and documentation,
- Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting and monitoring with all applicable environmental regulations and compliance requirements, including procurement of any Site Environmental Permits
- Carry out and document periodic inspections and audits to check that the Plant complies with environmental compliance requirements
- Prepare monthly environmental performance reports
- Develop and maintain the Plant Environmental Aspects and Impacts Register and track any actions raised until closure
- Review risk assessments / work procedures of Plant operations and maintenance activities to ensure environmental risks are identified and managed appropriately
- Investigate and report any environmental incidents and produce HSE Alerts / Lessons Learned
- Maintain all required records and documentation via entering, transcribing, recording, storing or maintaining information in written or electronic/digital form (coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating, auditing or verifying information or data),
- Follow-up daily Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) values and recording of the notes related the deviations of values, and preparation of monthly summary reports and logs,
- Ensure adequate spill kits are kept on site and organizes periodic spill drills
- Carry out / organizes environmental training for plant staff
- Manage environmental monitoring programme and ensure environmental monitoring and reporting is carried out as required
- Review records and reports concerning environmental measurement studies such as; emission measurements, underground water measurements, noise measurements and ensuring collection of environmental data and compliance checks and raise improvement actions as required
- Develop and Maintain Plant Environmental Emergency Plans for pollution protection/environmental incident trainings
- Manage waste on sites including:
-Ensures compliance with waste hierarchy and waste compliance requirements on site
-Labeling, packaging of wastes prior to shipment at the temporary waste collection areas for hazardous & non-hazardous wastes
-Preparation of waste inventories and planning of waste disposal and recycle transportation,
-Archiving of records for wastes generated at the site.
- Organise management reviews of environmental data and improvement plans and KPIs to improve environmental performance, particularly reduction of emissions, waste generation and consumption of consumables
- Liaise with HZI Corporate team to feedback site performance and learnings to enable continuous improvement of the HZI O&M Environmental Management System

1.3 Educational/Professional Qualifications/Training Certifications
- Environmental degree or similar
- Environmental Engineer degree or similar bachelors degree
- Certified ISO 14001, Environmental Management System Internal Auditor
1.4 Job Experience
- Minimum of 5 years as Environmental experience in the power generation industry or similar environment implementing and auditing the Plant PMS systems
- Must have depth knowledge and experience in establishing, implementing, maintaining and auditing in ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
- Preferably having knowledge in the Management Systems and other relevant standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001)
- Knowledge of applicable environmental laws and regulations in UAE
- Knowledge of IFC Environmental Performance Standards
