Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Based in Redmond, Washington at our satellite manufacturing facility, the Kuiper EHS Manager will help support, develop, communicate, train, drive, manage, audit, improve, and measure Amazon’s Kuiper EHS performance. This individual contributor role will include developing and enhancing EHS compliance and risk management processes. Driving understanding, engagement to provide EHS performance improvement, for the Kuiper portfolio, influence business units leadership, and further integrate EHS into daily operations.
Key job responsibilities
- Conducts investigations based of risks, hazards, and incidents.
- Promote EHS awareness throughout the organization through effective employee communications and participation.
- Execute sampling plans
- Serve as key point of contact for safety issues and environmental issues.
- Conduct compliance tasks including storm water sampling, waste inspections, chemical inventory, and life safety audits.
- Execute compliance with applicable laws, regulations and customer requirements.
- Support and conduct EHS audits, developing action plans to resolve findings, and implement countermeasures promptly and effectively.
- Perform job hazard analysis and risk assessments for new processes and equipment.
- Maintain accurate daily, weekly, and monthly metrics to report to onsite management teams and corporate based reporting systems.
- Recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures to management, including ergonomics.
- Drive continual improvement efforts to reduce site EHS risk
- Support site stand-up meetings, safety committees, and floor inspections

A day in the life
Based in Redmond, WA, the EHS Manager role will support the development and will execute Amazon Kuiper’s EHS compliance programs and be supported under the supervision of the Kuiper EHS Manager. You will support Kuiper’s personnel in the development, testing, and manufacture of space hardware, which will include developing and executing new programs to strengthen our programs EHS compliance and risk management processes.
This role is accountable for supporting development and implementation of environmental, health and safety programs, tools and standards in line with Kuiper Global EHS policies. Responsibilities include training and communication in a manner that ensures compliance to regulatory and internal standards, as well as business needs. Key to this role is building and maintaining strong relationships with all levels of the organization from leadership to individual workers to support them in determining best in class methods to achieve compliance.

- Bachelor’s degree in safety, environmental science, engineering, or a related field or relevant experience
- 3+ years experience in EHS for aerospace R&D and/or complex manufacturing experience.
- 3+ years experience working with regulatory authorities on permitting and ongoing permit compliance.
- 2+ years experience with the ability to review technical schematics and drawings for risk assessments.
- 2+ years experience with developing EHS program.
- 3+ years experience developing and implementing environmental compliance programs including regulated waste, water, and air regulations in accordance with regulations
- ASP, CSP, NEBOSH, CIH, or CHMM certifications
- Strong communication, teamwork, analysis, judgment, and customer focus skills
- Industrial environmental professional with significant experience including supporting compliance with Clear Air Act, RCRA, and Clean Water Act.
- Laser safety officer or Radiation safety officer
- Experience providing EHS support in laboratory/R&D, complex manufacturing, and/or production environments.
- A proven track record of communicating complex health and safety information in terms understandable across the organization.
- Possess the ability to engage the workforce at all levels in the journey to build a strong safety culture
- Excellent at creating and maintaining working relationships across all levels and disciplines, receptive to feedback and input from others, and quick to apply changes.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $98,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $210,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
