Applications are invited for the post of Environment Manager based at our newly acquired Queens Road Depot.
With over 2000 colleagues spread across multiple sites; Stagecoach Manchester is one of the country’s biggest bus operators. We are recruiting an Environment Manager to join the team, as we expand our business due to the successful award of Greater Manchester Franchising contracts based in Middleton, Oldham and Queens Road depots.
This is a permanent position that will work under the Fleet Engineer.
We are looking for an experienced environmental specialist to fill a full time permanent Environment Manager role. Your skills will help position Stagecoach Manchester as a transport sector leader for environmental management and sustainability. You will be instrumental in delivering against the environmental goals and targets, helping us reach our Net Zero ambition.
Reporting to the Fleet Engineer, you will shape environmental management action at Stagecoach Manchester. As part of the newly forming team, you will be expected to work alongside Transport for Greater Manchester as we transition into Franchising. You will work closely with the wider sustainability team who will help and support you to succeed and grow. As the expert leading on one of the cornerstones of our sustainability strategy, you will engage with our operating company in Manchester to develop clear action plans. You will drive impactful, meaningful change and embed an inclusive, collaborative, and transparent environmental culture
Principal Accountabilities:
- Lead the maintenance of ISO 14001.
- Provide technical expertise and support to Depot management teams on environmental management, including biodiversity.
- Support with environmental management expertise.
- Support the design and be responsible for the delivery of appropriate environment training, awareness, and communications to employees.
- Support with high quality technical reports to support depot carbon performance and decarbonisation actions.
- Liaise with Transport for Greater Manchester on Environmental Management specific projects.
Person requirements, qualifications, experience and competencies
- Environmental management experience, with a working knowledge of ISO 14001:2015 as essential.
- Demonstrable experience in effective internal and external relationship building.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sense of complex data sets.
- Excellent time management skills, able to embrace challenging tasks, often with tight deadlines and budgets.
- Ability to influence through evidence-based, structured communications, verbal and written.
- A good leader, personable, approachable, and friendly.
- Proficiency with Microsoft software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams), is essential.
- Environmental qualifications e.g. IEMA, NEBOSH would be an advantage.
- Full clean UK drivers’ licence and willingness to travel is essential.
