Class Definition
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
To assist a superior by performing routine and less complex environmental engineering-related tasks; to assist professional staff engaged compliance inspections, field surveys and determinations on sources of pollution; to assist in the collection, review, and analysis of data to determine compliance with State and Federal environmental protection regulations; and to do related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of a superior from whom general and specific work assignments and instructions are received with some latitude for the exercise of independent judgment; work is reviewed in process and upon completion for application of accepted environmental engineering methods and techniques.

To assist professional staff engaged in compliance inspections, field surveys and determinations on sources of pollution.
To assist in the collection, review, and analysis of data to determine compliance with State and Federal environmental protection regulations.
To assist in the collection and analysis of environmental samples, including but not limited to groundwater, soils, surface water, drinking water, wastewater, storm water, sewage, and air.
To assist in the investigation of threats and impacts to public drinking water supplies, surface water quality, soils, air, and groundwater.
To assist in determinations of the quality and safety of soils, water, and air.
To assist in the development, review, and implementation of remedial corrective actions of impaired water, soil, or air within the State.
To assist in the development and preparation of permits, letters, enforcement actions, reports, engineering plans, and other materials related to source pollution or threats, drinking water and/or pool water quality.
To assist in the preparation of testimony, presentations, hearings, and public forums pertaining to the field of environmental engineering and related tasks.
To assist in the promulgation, development, and implementation of environmental regulations.
To communicate with supervisors, peers, applicants, stakeholders, responsible parties, government officials, and members of the public about the status, process, and objectives of projects and/or activities.
To track and enter data and environmental monitoring data and information related to the status of projects and activities.
To assist in the performance of other tasks as assigned.
To do related work as required.
Required Qualifications for Appointment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND CAPACITIES
Basic knowledge of the principles and practices of environmental engineering as it relates to wastewater treatment, surface water, drinking water, and storm water pollution control, air pollution control, waste management, environmental remediation, and/or pollution prevention; a working knowledge of Bacteriology and Chemistry as they apply to behavior and control of pollutants and contaminates in various environmental media; the ability to read and interpret less complex engineering plans and specifications; the ability to perform basic and less complex environmental engineering field investigations; the ability to use common word processing, spreadsheet, email, presentation, and data management software and related equipment; the ability to apply accepted engineering principles and regulatory requirements to solve less complex environmental problems within the scope of assignments; and related capacities and abilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related science field.
Supplemental Information
Preferred experience with stormwater treatment, surface water quality studies, and performing storm runoff volume and peak rate of discharge calculations. Coursework in chemistry, hydrology, and stormwater treatment desired.
