Environmental Engineer
Role Synopsis
The Environmental Engineer provides water, waste and air regulatory expertise, compliance permitting, program development, agency interface and reporting for the Cooper River PTA Manufacturing Plant. This position is a champion for site environmental compliance processes and will actively engage all levels of the workforce across the Operations, Maintenance, and Projects teams to enable continuous improvement.
Key Accountabilities
- Monitor and interpret federal, state and local regulations as well as INEOS corporate regulations to determine applicability to the site.
- Develop documented programs and employ systematic processes to ensure that activities performed are in compliance with all applicable regulations.
- Obtain permits from the appropriate agencies for work to be performed at the site.
- Site Subject Matter Expert (SME) for HON, LDAR, Boiler MACT, RICE MACT, NPDES, SWPPP, Clean Water Act, RCRA, TSCA, ODS, FIFRA, Soil Remediation, Land Disturbance and SARA 311/312 which includes the preparation and submittal of associated regulatory reports.
- Monitor site performance against permit requirements and identify opportunities to continuously improve.
- Coach, train and consult with site personnel about their role in ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Network with peer environmental engineers and corporate experts to develop a consistent interpretation of regulatory requirements.
- Preserve the long-standing excellent relationships the site has established with regulatory agencies by demonstrating transparency and commitment to environmental compliance.
Essential Education
B.S. Degree in Engineering required.
Essential Experience and Job Requirements
- A minimum of 6 years of experience working in an environmental role within a petrochemical or refining manufacturing facility, or similarly related field.
Desirable Criteria / Qualifications
- Experience with obtaining or renewing operating permits (ie. RCRA, NPDES, Title V)
- Experience in directly interfacing with state or federal regulatory agencies.
- Proven capability to learn and understand complex requirements.
- Actively seeks out best practices and adopt to current role.
- Proven interpersonal and communication skills.
- Leading/participation in incident investigations.
- ISO 14001 initial program design and compliance
