Position Summary:
This internship offers hands-on experience with exhibit lighting design, integration, and project management of technical systems within the AV, Exhibits & Projects Department at Georgia Aquarium. Interns will learn about and assist with the quality control of lighting and technical systems in existing exhibits, as well as contribute to the design, production, and installation of lighting for new exhibits and displays. The internship consists of two phases: initially shadowing lighting, and AV team members, followed by the opportunity to design or enhance lighting and technical systems for an exhibit. This experience allows interns to gain applied skills in exhibit lighting design and technical systems while building professional connections in fields related to lighting, AV, and exhibits.
Responsibilities:
Daily responsibilities include:
- Assisting with morning quality control inspections of all galleries & guest areas including inside habitats
- Inputting any issues found during inspections into departmental Excel checklist
- Assisting with the preparation of materials for exhibit, AV, lighting and technical systems installations as needed
- Assisting with new exhibit, AV or lighting installations and maintenance as needed
- Participate in any departmental meetings, discussions or activities
- Attending all GAI Training Department seminars
- Working on internship project
Qualifications:
- Working towards a degree in either Theatrical Lighting Design and other Technical Theatre roles (ie: stage management, technical director etc.), Museum Studies, Scenic Design or Exhibit Design
- Basic knowledge of Vectorworks, AutoCad or CAD related software
- Proficiency with Microsoft software (OneDrive, Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Must be self-motivated and a team player
- Interns must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED.
- This is an experience-based, paid internship.
