The Ranger (Security) Ambassador provides exceptional internal and external guest service to all zoo guests and staff mainly at Zoo security stations and when operating shuttle vehicles. Other duties include guest bag checks, effectively communicating guest/team member issues with Security base and assisting Rangers (Security Staff) with on grounds patrol.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Provides exceptional internal and external guest services per established guidelines. Greet and assists internal and external guests in a friendly and positive manner regarding bag checks, temp checks, and zoo offerings/information/directions.
- Patrol and monitor employee and guest entry areas of the zoo.
- Know the department manual, emergency plans, and knowledge of emergency phone numbers and protocols.
- Assist Rangers in reuniting lost children with parents and/or guardians.
- Assist Rangers with returning lost and found items promptly.
- Respond to and resolves guest concerns.
- Assist ranges in responding to emergencies helping guests and staff.
- Positions require a flexible schedule must be available on weekdays, weekends, before/after hour zoo events and holidays.
- Ability to drive zoo vehicles, security truck, shuttles, golf carts (Non-CDL).
- Ensure that all passengers receive safe, reliable employee-oriented transportation throughout the shift. Responsible for keeping assigned vehicles clean inside and out and odor free.
- Advise manager of any accidents or incidents per company policy
- Complete driver logs
- Maintain access control and only permit authorized persons to enter the property.
- Ensures the proper care, maintenance, and accountability of any San Antonio Zoo equipment used by Ranger, including but not limited to cameras/CCTV, radios, computers, and vehicles.
- Upholds all company policies as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures, Team Member Handbook, Safety Handbook, and Code of Business Conduct.
- Consistently exhibit an attitude of service inside and outside of the zoo, showing hospitality to all.
- Be fully committed to the mission of San Antonio Zoo to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wild world we steward and animals we protect.
- Performs other work-related duties as required and assigned.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Must have a valid Texas Driver's License and clean driving record.
- Experience working in a high-volume customer-focused venue or attraction is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills.
- Proven experience in and passion for guest service.
- Ability/demonstrated experience with evaluating situations, making decisions, and reacting quickly and calmly in emergencies.
- Ability to interact effectively and calmly with angry or emotional guests and employees during intensely aggravated circumstances.
- Ability to write clearly and informatively.
- Basic computer skills and knowledge.
- Ability to maintain guest, employee, and organization confidentiality.
- Must be able to walk (80 acres) and/or stand up to 10 hours daily in adverse outdoor conditions such as cold, rain, snow, or heat.
- At times during busy seasons, you must be available to work overtime and/or double shifts.
- Must be able to lift to 50 pounds.
- Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
