The Interconnection and Grid - Manager is a critical role within the Offshore Business focusing on the delivery of one Key Work package of an Offshore Wind Farm. As such, the individual will be working as part of a diverse and multinational team in the management of a contract worth between 250mUSD to 500mUSD.
The successful candidate will be a key member of the Project Leadership Team and will be responsible for defining delivery strategies, and plans, tendering, negotiating, and managing delivery of contracts, planning, and implementing delivery sites and logistics, leading delivery phase including management of offshore contractors and associated interfaces, and ensuring quality, best practices and excellent H&SE performance are applied.

Position Specifics
The Interconnection and Grid - Manager will be responsible for the delivery of one Key Work package, Interconnection Agreements and Transmission Support Agreements. As such, the individual will be working as part of a multicultural and multinational team in the management of a contract worth more than 250mUSD with the 791 MWs New England Wind 1 Project and will be accountable for requesting, negotiating, developing and managing Interconnection Agreements, multi-million-dollar Transmission Support Contracts ($0.25Bn to $0.5Bn), and ultimately achieving commercial operation, on budget and on time, of utility scale offshore wind farms, in close liaison with the Electrical Design Manager for grid compliance matters and plant test requirement..
The successful candidate will be a key member of the Project Leadership Team, belonging to the EPC Grid Team and Reporting to the Project Grid EPC Director and the Senior Manager – Interconnection and Grid.
The Interconnection and Grid - Manager will be responsible for defining interconnection strategies, interconnection filing, negotiating tariffs to mitigate impacts to business cases, and managing multi-million dollars contracts for Interconnection Agreements, grid upgrades, interfacing with ISOs and Transmission System Owners on both technical and commercial fronts, in support of Avangrid offshore projects portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible leading discussions with the ISOs and transmission systems provider regarding Interconnection Requests, Cluster Studies as well Material Modification Determination and IA updates.
- Lead the IA negotiation from a technical and support from commercial standpoint• Support the Electrical Design Managers to meet grid compliance, NERC compliance, etc.• Support the wind turbine selection process.
- Lead delivery of key work scopes within the Key Work Package, including co-ordination of key interfaces, management of stakeholders, maintaining compliance with development consent, supported by the relevant functions (Quality, H&S, Engineering, Construction, Supply and Expediting, T&I, Commissioning, Legal, Procurement, etc.) through the delivery phase and up to O&M to secure long term investment value and minimise risks.
- Ensure Key Work Package is delivered on time, to budget and quality following the highest industry practice, consistent with Avangrid Renewable’s strategy and observing the maximum respect for Health, Safety and Environment to ensure regulatory and legal compliance.
- Implement offshore standards, procedures, tools, best practices, and quality requirements for large scale Key Package, to be constructed across a number of countries.
- Define, implement, resource and manage the appropriate organisation structure for managing the delivery of the Key Work Package comprising employees working within several countries throughout Europe (UK, Germany, France, Spain…), USA and other parts of the World to ensure project execution with intelligent and cost-effective resourcing.
- Co-ordinating with internal stakeholders including legal, procurement, commercial, and technical.
- Provide input on appropriate programme strategies / commercial strategies / commercial agreements relative to the Key Package to maximise value.
- Provide key input in the preparation of investment dossiers for all funding requests for the Key Package to secure investment support at best value.
- Provide key and strategic delivery advice, risk assessment and recommendations to the business.
- Work with the HSE team to develop HSE strategy for Key Package delivery and ensure a high standard of health and safety awareness is maintained.
- Carry out any other duties as directed by the Grid EPC Director and Senior Manager- Interconnection and Grid
- Provide key knowledge, lessons learned and support Key Package throughout the whole life cycle of a project.
- Ensure all lessons learned regarding offshore delivery are captured and shared across the different offshore packages. Establish the right mechanisms for this process and ensuring teams and substantial package implement them to capture and enhance business value.
Key Criteria
General skills, knowledge and experience
- 5+ years of proven Interconnection Management experience within a delivery orientated environment in technical projects.
- Ability to manage people effectively to deliver required outputs in a timely manner.
- Competent in future planning. Proven experience in delivery and contracting management and programming.
- Experience in offshore windfarm, marine works or oil and gas delivery and marine operations.
- Experience in tendering processes, contract negotiations and commercial delivery contracts.
- Sound relationship management skills and confidence working with more senior project managers.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to influence and develop key project and business decisions.
- Good report writing, presentation skills and ability to summarize key parameters and drivers impacting the project and business.
