The Role
Cypress Creek Renewables is seeking a motivated candidate for a Manager of External Affairs position for solar and battery energy storage projects in Texas, the Southwest, and additional nearby regions. This position would support External Affairs and Development initiatives and play a key role in developing and maintaining positive and productive engagement with local stakeholders. An effective candidate will serve as a local link and direct contact between Cypress Creek Renewables and communities, interested individuals, and groups that have an influence on the success of the projects.
Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Write and execute communication and community engagement strategic plans
- Develop and/or maintain the reputation of Cypress Creek Renewables necessary to effectively plan, permit, and execute projects
- Serve as the local contact for our projects’ communities. Identify, developer, and foster relationships with stakeholders, seeking to discover community questions and concerns and organize follow-up meetings and touchpoints throughout the development phase of the projects
- Research interests, demographics, and unique features of project communities; complete risk assessments
- Track local media coverage and maintain positive relationships with reporters in assigned communities
- Identify events, charitable giving, and sponsorship opportunities
- Prepare external communications and messaging that inform stakeholders about Cypress Creek’s projects including press releases, newsletters, social media content, fact sheets, etc.
- Coach project team members on best community engagement practices and lead them through the execution of the strategy
- Organize community engagement tactics and activities including open house events and community presentations
- Collaborate within project team to build a coalition of supporters who will take positive actions for our projects
- Manage all local public affairs consultants or part-time employees assigned to projects
- Positively represent Cypress Creek at any assigned boards, committees, or membership events in the communities or for the renewable energy industry
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of External Affairs
Requirements:
- Strong local network in one or more communities in Texas, the Southwest, or adjacent regions
- Bachelor’s degree and 2 to 6+ years' experience in public affairs, communications, community affairs, or related position(s)
- Excellent writing and communication skills; comfortable giving presentations in small or large group settings
- Microsoft Office skills required
- Experience in government relations or media a plus
- Ability to work with little supervision and seek help when needed
- Results-driven and solutions-oriented
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time throughout the United States, but primarily within Texas, the Southwest, and adjacent regions
Compensation: The compensation range for this position is $90K - $140K annually depending on experience.
