Job Description and Duties
Under the general direction of the District Materials Engineer, a Senior Transportation Engineer, the Transportation Engineer Technician (TET) serves as a District 11 Field Tester. Performs Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) and Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) plant inspections, and performs general laboratory testing to ensure compliance with the contract plans and specifications. Obtains and maintains certifications from California Test Methods (CTM), the American Association of State Highway Officials (AASHTO), the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM), and the American Concrete Institute (ACI) for various test procedures mandated by the standard specifications and contract special provisions.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Transportation Engineering Technician exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Special Requirements
Possession of a valid driver’s license is required to operate a State owned or leased vehicle. Travel, night shift, and overtime may be required. This position is subject to occasional non-standard shifts, usually without prior notice.
