Job Description
This position will be under the Project Development & Finance in the Accelerated Deployment and Decision Support Center at NREL. The mission of the group is to inform the direction of future technology and policy research at NREL by helping clients meet ambitious energy goals in today’s marketplace. The group provides analytical support, business case assessment, and market intelligence on energy efficiency, resiliency, and renewable energy options to inform client decision making.
Successful candidates will be part of a NREL team of reviewers for a particular section of the tax code for renewable energy. They will review applications for tax credits, make recommendations and participate in meetings and training as necessary. They can expect to be managed by a senior NREL employee. Candidate will also support federal, state, and/or local technical assistance, capacity building programs, and grant funding programs such as the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program.
Candidates will benefit by working with several experienced NREL professionals; and will learn a significant amount about renewable energy development. It is also a good internal networking opportunity within NREL. Candidates will be encouraged to explore other opportunities as well within NREL.
The candidate will work part time during the school year and has the opportunity to work full time during school breaks. This will be an onsite/hybrid work location where at least 2-3 days per week must be spent onsite.
While the candidate’s primary job will be related to the review of tax credit applications, there will be opportunities to work on other projects, particularly in the latter half of the position. These projects may include community-based technical assistance, capacity building, and research on finance and investment mobilization. Such projects may operate at the domestic or international level.
Basic Qualifications
Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
Undergraduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a bachelor’s degree program from an accredited institution.
Post Undergraduate: Earned a bachelor’s degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.
Graduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a master’s degree program from an accredited institution.
Post Graduate: Earned a master’s degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.
Graduate + PhD: Completed master’s degree and enrolled as PhD student from an accredited institution.

Additional Required Qualifications
- Knowledge and coursework in renewable energy, environmental justice, tax, law, accounting, or engineering.
- Previous work experience on tax credits.
- In addition to the background check and drug test described here, the position is also contingent on passing a T2 background check requiring fingerprinting.
