Under the direction of a Senior Transportation Engineer, the Transportation Engineering Technician acts as a lead worker for the Field Materials Testing Unit to oversee performance of material testing and analysis on soil, aggregate, asphalt and concrete samples to meet Caltrans specifications and contract requirements for highway construction projects. Incumbent will also perform smoothness testing of existing pavements to determine the extent of pavement smoothness correction and to evaluate / analyze the smoothness of old and new pavements. Must have valid California driver license.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Transportation Engineering Technician exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
