WSP’s Mining Environmental Approvals Team has an opportunity for an Environmental Permitting and Approvals Consultant.
The successful candidate will be looking for a growth opportunity, within a strong consulting team that completes diverse and dynamic mining environmental approval projects focused on Ontario. What you can expect to do here:
- Be part of the team that works with our clients to successfully complete the environmental approvals for many of the mines currently operating in Ontario;
- Prepare and review permit / approval applications, technical reports and environmental management / monitoring plans related to water quality;
- Conduct comprehensive reviews of project plans to assess and document potential impacts on surface water quality, including to evaluate compliance with regulations and industry standards;
- Provide technical and regulatory support to mining projects, working collaboratively with our in-house experts in hydrology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, aquatic resources and engineering;
- Prepare and/or contribute to high quality environmental documents that adhere to WSP's requirements for quality, as well as our client's budget and schedule expectations;
- Effectively liaise with clients, regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and Indigenous communities to facilitate the approvals process;
- Mentor less experienced professionals as required, encouraging growth and success within the team;
- Stay abreast of emerging regulatory trends, guidelines and standards relevant to mining and water quality in Ontario.
What you'll bring to WSP:
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a related discipline from a recognized university (post graduate degree considered an asset) with progressive experience, including consulting to private sector clients;
- Eight or more years’ experience demonstrating a high degree of technical competence conducting water quality assessments, data analysis and interpretation, with particular emphasis on northern climates;
- Experience with the Ontario and Federal regulatory regimes, and environmental approvals processes applicable to metal mining;
- Strong communicator (both written and verbal) in English;
- Experience with environmental monitoring programs, including design, implementation and reporting;
- Knowledge of industrial processes, wastewater treatment systems and inorganic chemistry is an asset;
- Self-starter who enjoys working in a team environment having an ability to multi-task and work with multidisciplinary project teams to execute projects collaboratively.
