The anticipated salary range for this role is between $179,000.00 and $230,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.
Role Description
The Sustainability Reporting Director will play a key role in supporting the Americas Division Sustainability Group in its mission to drive strategy and advance sustainability objectives across the firm. This role will be responsible for helping to measure, manage and drive Environmental, Social, and Governance performance of SMBC Group Americas Division, including leading reporting activities, helping to drive strategic initiatives, and working with stakeholders across the bank to advance sustainability programs, evaluate progress, understand external expectations, support regulatory disclosures, respond to external inquiries, and amplify success stories.
Qualifications and Skills
- Develop and maintain a reporting framework working across functions to access data evaluate KPIs understand what is driving performance and advise to ensure programs are on track to meet targets and objectives
- Prepare high quality materials to support steering committees management and board meetings as well as training materials and knowledge sharing to enhance organizational awareness and the sustainability business case
- Manage external disclosures in coordination with relevant departments ensuring full validation and documentation of all sustainability metrics in line with assurance and Group disclosure methodology including responding to external inquiries surveys etc
- Help build programs and drive continuous improvement consistent with reporting standards and best practices such as GRI SASB TCFD and GHG protocols Benchmark bestinclass methods monitor future trends and incorporate expert feedback
- Monitor regulatory landscape for Americas Division research emerging issues and support readiness and response for ESGrelated compliance
- Support stakeholder engagement process plans and events to understand and integrate relevant feedback and expectations including supporting materiality assessments
- With corporate communications elevate sustainability story to raise visibility brand reputation through ESG publication communications fact sheets and other related materials
- Support vendor relationships including preparing SOWs and managing external engagements to successful completion
- Coordinate with Tokyo to collaborate on key initiatives and support other program initiatives as needed
Qualifications
- In depth knowledge of reporting frameworks including ISSB GRI SASB CDP GHG Protocol TCFD and strong understanding of the SDGs and aligning activityreporting strategy
- Experience leading and facilitating group processes strong influencing skills and collaboration and maintaining positive relationships
- Experience providing strategic advice to enhance and drive ESG strategy and initiatives
- Understanding of evolving stakeholder expectations and experience engaging with a variety of stakeholders as well as ESG ratingevaluation systems
- Self starter with ability to thrive in collaborative team environment global or multinational experience preferred
- 10 years of specialized experience
- 7 years increasing responsibility in sustainability corporate social responsibility or ESG reporting
