About Data Engineering
Data plays a critical role in every facet of the Goldman Sachs business. The Data Engineering group is at the core of that offering, focusing on providing the platform, processes, and governance, for enabling the availability of clean, organized, and impactful data to scale, streamline, and empower our core businesses.
Our sustainability data team partners across the firm to source, curate and apply innovative data. We strive to provide our clients and businesses with the most accurate and decision[1]useful data available, leveraging our in-house proprietary solutions and external resources. We provide our clients with tools to help them consistently and effectively evaluate their climate performance and progress, identify opportunities, and allocate capital to meet their objectives

As a sustainability focused Data Scientiston the Data Engineering team, you will be responsible for helping improve the quality of data offerings, the breadth of data the businesses deploy, partnering to scale the trust we can build in decision-making and disclosures.
How You Will Fulfill Your Potential
- Engage with our sustainability data consumers and producers to grow the business
- Design & develop modern data management tools to curate our most important data sets, models and processes
Relevant Technologies: Python, SQL, Cloud Data Services
Basic Qualifications
- A Bachelor or Master degree in a computational field (Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or in a related quantitative discipline)
- 2-7+ years of experience using Python, R, SQL, or using other programming languages for practical data wrangling
- Deep interest in sustainability risk (e.g. climate transition and physical risks, biodiversity risks). Experience with corporate disclosures and geo-spatial data.
- Expertise in statistics and statistical modelling. Correlation, regression and predictive modelling. Machine learning techniques.
- Expertise in data dashboards, visualization, notebooks (e.g. PowerBI, Plotly, Jupyter)
- Expertise in data warehousing concepts (e.g. star schema, entitlement implementations, SQL v/s NoSQL modeling, milestoning, indexing, partitioning)
- Comfort with Agile operating models (practical experience of Scrum / Kanban)
- Excellent communications skills and the ability to work with subject matter experts to extract critical business concepts. Independent thinker, willing to engage, challenge or learn
- Ability to stay commercially focused and to always push for quantifiable commercial impact. Strong work ethic, a sense of ownership and urgency
- Establish trusted partnerships with key contacts and users across business and engineering teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Sustainability data industry experience
- Geospatial data experience, climate models
- Natural Language Processing for extraction of structure data from text reports
