The Position:
Ivy Tech Community College is seeking a qualified and experienced full-time Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Instructor to deliver specialized training in asbestos, lead, OSHA, and other EHS-related disciplines. The successful candidate will design and conduct training programs that comply with state, federal, and industry standards, ensuring the safety and compliance of participants in various industries. This role requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and significant expertise in environmental health, safety regulations, and adult education.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver comprehensive training courses in environmental health and safety, including but not limited to asbestos and lead abatement, OSHA 10 & 30 (Construction and General Industry), HAZWOPER, confined space entry, and lockout/tagout procedures.
Tailor lesson plans and training programs to meet the specific needs of diverse learners, ensuring all course objectives are met and regulatory requirements are fulfilled.
Conduct both classroom and hands-on training, utilizing technology-enhanced methods when appropriate.
Manage and maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment, addressing learner differences and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
Oversee and guide guest instructors, ensuring adherence to course material, and providing support as needed.
Stay updated on changes in local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and state-specific requirements such as Indiana (326 IAC, 410 IAC) and Illinois (Illinois Admin Code).
Maintain accurate training records, certifications, and documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Participate in continuing education and professional development programs to stay current with training best practices and regulatory changes.

Education & Certification:
Bachelor's degree required in architecture, industrial hygiene, engineering, building system design, occupational health, safety, science, or a related field.
Completion of relevant state- or EPA-approved asbestos and lead-specific training courses.
Authorized trainer status for OSHA 10 & 30 Construction and General Industry courses.
Certified completion of HAZWOPER, confined space, and other relevant safety programs.
Experience:
A minimum of 4 years of experience in asbestos inspection, lead-based paint abatement, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, or a related field.
At least 2 years of experience managing or teaching in an environmental health or safety training program.
Experience in adult education and delivering training to diverse audiences.
Regulatory knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to environmental hazards, occupational health, and safety standards (Indiana and Illinois preferred).
Skills:
Strong ability to develop and deliver engaging, effective training programs for adult learners.
Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
Proficient in the use of instructional technologies, audiovisual equipment, and other teaching aids.
Knowledge of learning environment management, including ensuring compliance with safety standards.
Ability to adapt lesson plans to meet the diverse needs of learners and create a positive, safe learning environment.
Position Preferences/Ideal Experience:
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
Experience with NIEHS Worker Training Program or similar certifications.
Familiarity with NFPA 1041 competencies in instructional development and delivery.

Starting Salary Range: $70,000 - $72,500 (Based on qualifications & experience)
Classification: E1 (exempt)
