The Incoming Inspector is responsible for inspecting, testing, and verifying that raw materials, components, or products meet company and industry standards before they are accepted into inventory or production. This role ensures that all incoming materials comply with specifications and quality requirements, thereby maintaining the integrity of the manufacturing or assembly process. Additional responsibilities may include performing in-process inspection on sub-assemblies and finished goods.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspection & Testing:
- Conduct detailed inspections and tests on incoming materials or products to ensure they meet predefined specifications and quality standards.
- Use measuring instruments, gauges, and other inspection tools to perform checks on physical attributes, such as dimensions, weight, electrical performance, and appearance.
- Conduct detailed inspections and tests on in-process sub-assemblies and finished products to ensure they meet predefined specifications and quality standards.
Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, test results, and any non-conformance reports.
- Complete inspection reports and update inventory systems with inspection results and status.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, test results, and any non-conformance reports for in-process inspections.
Compliance & Standards:
- Ensure all incoming materials comply with industry regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
- Verify the accuracy and completeness of certificates of compliance and other relevant documentation from suppliers.
Communication:
- Communicate findings to suppliers and internal teams, including any discrepancies or defects.
- Work with the Quality Assurance and Procurement teams to address and resolve quality issues with suppliers.
Quality Improvement:
- Identify trends or recurring issues with incoming materials and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
- Recommend corrective actions and process improvements to enhance material quality and supplier performance.
- Identify trends or recurring issues with sub-assemblies, and finished goods and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
Inventory Management:
- Assist in the proper storage and handling of incoming materials to prevent damage or contamination.
- Ensure materials are labeled and tagged according to inspection results and company procedures.
Compliance with Procedures:
- Follow established procedures and guidelines for conducting inspections and handling materials.
- Stay updated on changes to quality standards, regulations, and inspection techniques.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical or vocational training is a plus. An associate’s degree is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of three years previous experience in quality inspection or a similar role preferred. Familiar with incoming inspection sampling plans such as Mil-Std-105.

- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in using inspection tools and equipment.
- Good understanding of quality control processes and industry standards.
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable attendance and timekeeping.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry materials up to 50Lbs.
- Prolonged periods of standing or walking.
- Ability to perform tasks that require fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
Work Environment:
- Typically work in a manufacturing or warehouse setting.
- May be exposed to varying temperatures, noise, and other environmental conditions.
Additional Information:
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office tools, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Familiar using inventory management tools like NetSuite, SAP, etc.
- Familiarity with Minitab or other statistical tools is a plus.
Travel:
- Occasional Travel may be required.
