Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine the Hospital Sustainability Coordinator supports the development and execution of a comprehensive sustainability program that aligns with overarching goals and engages staff at all levels. This position reports to the Director of Healthcare Safety and Sustainability. This multifaceted role helps position Stony Brook University Hospital as a leader in environmental sustainability with the goal of upholding national environmental standards and best practices. The Coordinator assists with the envelopment, implementation, promotion, and monitoring of environmental strategies and goals across Stony Brook University Hospital. The Hospital Sustainability Coordinator acts in accordance with policies and procedures and exemplifies the mission, vision, and values of Stony Brook University Hospital.
Duties of a Hospital Sustainability Coordinator may include the following but are not limited to:
- Coordinate efforts to address Sustainability Steering Committee outcomes, including assistance with assembling new data elements to develop support systems
- Monitor coordination with regulatory requirements to keep initiatives and goals on track with leadership
- Explore and support innovative and creative approaches to address sustainability efforts
- Explore available funding opportunities to further projects and initiatives
- Assist in coordination of the Practice Greenhealth application and other regulatory reports
- Assist in the creation of annual goals in alignment with best practice, regulatory requirements, environmental pledges, and Practice Greenhealth reviews
- Assist in the promotion of sustainability engagement activities through tools, education, and training to increase awareness among staff members, patients, and the community, including collaborate with the marketing and/or communications department on a comprehensive communications strategy, and maintenance of website
Qualifications
Required\:
- Bachelor’s degree in sustainability, environmental sciences, engineering, public health, environmental/resources management, organizational development/change management or a related field
- Has two (2) years of relevant full time work experience including sustainability.
Preferred\:
- Has outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with a variety of audiences, excellent writing skills
- Has experience in developing and presenting sustainable business concepts, training, and emerging technologies
- Has the ability to analyze data, evaluate outcomes, and recommend actions
- Has organizational skills, time management skills, self-motivation, project management experience, and priority setting skills
- Has experience in organizational development and change management, and continuous quality improvement
- Understands environmental health and safety guidelines, the green guidelines for healthcare, and basic environmental compliance for healthcare
- Has knowledge of waste and inefficiencies common to the healthcare setting, healthcare construction and procurement practices, clinical needs analysis
- Has LEED-AP, Well-AP, Fitwell Ambassador, True, or similar credential
- 10 years of relevant work experience
- Has experience in healthcare sustainability management

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:
- Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services*
- Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
- Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
- Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as - $68975 - $81229.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBUH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
In addition, all UUP positions have an additional $3,400 for location,
