Job Overview:
The Senior Environmental Specialist uses their in-depth knowledge, experience of best practices, and internal/external issues to improve the Environment discipline within McDermott. They will act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and share their conceptual and practical expertise related to the Environment discipline. They will be responsible for solving complex Environmental problems using discipline-specific knowledge and working independently with minimal guidance. The Senior Environmental Specialist impacts a range of customer, operational, project, or service activities with the Environment team and other related teams and ensures that they work within the appropriate guidelines and policies.
ResponsibilitiesKey Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Guide project, vessel, and facility in the implementation of company’s and site/vessel-specific Environmental terms, requirements, and deliverables, including project critical activities (e.g., Engineering, Construction, HUC, Operations, and Contractor interfaces)
- Identifies existing, new, and merged environmental legislation specific to the scope of work, including monitoring compliance) and interpretation of its impact on the company business plan
- Prepare and complete environmental aspects and impacts register, ENVID, or other risk reviews, including identification of related controls to manage the environmental risks related to the scope of work and location
- Ensure environmental plans, procedures, and instructions are developed and implemented
- Prepare and maintain the environmental legal and risk registers
- Conduct Environmental Prequalification of subcontractors and vendors as applicable
- Prepare Environmental audit plans, conducting of audits, and manage corrective actions
- Prepare Environmental performance reports and submission of same to the Environmental Functional Lead and Site Management
- Provide SME support to the company QHSES training department to include development and delivery
- Develop and oversee plans to meet facility/project Objectives, Targets, and Goals aligned to the Global and BL Strategies and O&Ts
- Lead or participate as SME in Incident Investigations and reporting
- Lead and direct environmental investigations following incidents and or non-compliances
- Ensure that corrective actions and recommendations are acted upon
- Ensure report completion for process and statutory requirements
- Provide Environmental input into a look ahead plans and reports based on a project schedule
- Provide Environmental input to MOCs and Lessons Learned
- Provide Environmental input in the development and maintenance of Emergency Procedures
- Attend and provide input to forums such as kick-off meetings, constructability reviews, readiness reviews, etc.
- Manage Environmental Performance Indicator data collection, ongoing reporting, tracking, and analysis
- Implement and support communication and awareness of environmental initiatives and campaigns
- Support and provide input to the annual sustainability report
QualificationsEssential Qualifications and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Safety, or Engineering or a related degree
- Advanced education (i.e., MBA or other master’s level education) is preferred
- 6 years of experience within the Energy Industry and preferably within EPCI project execution
- Trained and experienced ISO standards lead auditor (9001, 14001, or 45001)
- Ability to work as a team member as well as act as a team leader
- Have experience with technical activities, including onshore and offshore operations
- Maintain key competencies associated with the Environmental function
- Communication and presentation skills, both written and spoken
- Be conversant with local Environmental laws, codes, regulations, and norms
- Statistical and data analysis ability
- Good interpersonal skills
- Conflict Resolution and leadership skills
- Willingness to travel
- Computer literate in Microsoft programs: Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel
- Preferred project management experience
- Preferred knowledge of RegScan, Intelex, FigBytes, and PowerBI platforms
