The responsibilities of this position comprise the teaching of lecture and laboratory courses in Environmental Sciences and Environmental Studies to undergraduate (BSENVSTUD, BSENVSCI). As a faculty member, the Adjunct Professor is encouraged to participate actively in curriculum development, community-based service-learning activities/projects, course assessment and student career development. The faculty member should be committed first to teaching excellence and possess strong experiential and outdoor teaching skills. The post holder is expected to perform all duties professionally, remain current in the discipline and pedagogy, and ethically support the policies and mission of the University.
This position reports to the Dean of the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct in-person classes teaching environmental science
- Prepare course material
- Provide feedback and assessment of student performance
- Maintain a positive and engaging learning environment
- Keep abreast of developments in the field of sustainability and business innovation related to sustainability and incorporate new knowledge into the curriculum as appropriate
- Attend departmental meetings and participate in faculty development activities as required

Education and Experience
Minimum
- Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in environmental studies, conservation biology, environmental policy, environmental education, natural resource management or related field from an accredited college or university.
- Previous teaching experience is required.
Preferred
- Experience designing, organizing and participating in environmental community-based projects, service learning, high impact teaching practices and/or experiential learning projects are preferred. Post-graduate research and/or work experience in related fields are also plusses.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of environmental issues, sustainability studies and or entrepreneurial programs
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work collaboratively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body at all levels of the university
- Dedication to providing high-quality education to students
- Familiarity with educational technology and ability to use it to enhance student learning
- High integrity and ethical standards
Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.
Other Requirements
- This is a part-time, exempt position. Nineteen hours per week (M-F) will be the general rule. However, depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required. Must be willing to work occasional nights and weekends and a varying schedule.
