The EHS Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the organization's environmental, health, and safety programs. The role involves ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies and procedures. The EHS Specialist will work to minimize risks and promote a culture of safety within the organization.
Job Responsibilities:
âInvestigate all incidents, illnesses, and deficiencies to identify root causes and necessary corrective actions to prevent recurrence
âDevelop new and continually revise existing EHS programs and supporting documentation. Write technical documents.
âCommunicate departmental programmatic and procedural changes through email, physical and virtual signage, Q&A meetings, and training
âDesign and present material for recurring safety meetings. Promote participation and ensure all associated record-keeping is maintained.
âMaintain an injury reporting database, update files and supporting records, and accurately enter injury and illness data to ensure compliance
âAttend cross-departmental meetings to represent the EHS department and relay or act on information appropriately
âCreate materials, communications, and resources for the successful implementation and maintenance of safety programs
âStay abreast of changing regulations and EHS trends
âAssist in the development of and conduct new team member safety orientation
âLiaise with workers’ compensation personnel to manage claims and expedite closure. Utilize claims management software to gather claims data.
âUsing appropriate leadership and resources, implement changes at numerous levels within the company to ensure regulatory compliance
âDevelop and update training materials and technical reports
âBuild and maintain relationships with local occupational health clinics and doctors
âOrganize and perform emergency action drills. Update emergency action training and documentation.
âDevelop a wide range of metrics and data summaries
âUtilize Google Workspace, MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat Reader and PDF, other web-based applications, and any departmental-specific software platforms to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of the EHS Department
âBuild and maintain recurring reporting for corrective action tracking. Follow up with departmental leadership to ensure closures.
âPerform inspections, audits, and risk assessments. Maintain associated records.
âLead the emergency response team
âMaintain company-wide EHS training matrix
âMaintain and promote professional business relationships with all Athletic Brewing team members
âObtain and maintain required environmental permits, licenses, and other regulatory documentation. Ensure permit requirements are met.
âCoordinate the management of hazardous waste. Manage hazardous waste streams.
âAssign or perform tasks or work environment-based safety training, monitor and maintain records according to regulatory requirements
âGenerate, compile, and report departmental KPIs on a periodic and regular basis

Education, Experience, and Skills:
âBachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Science, or other technical degree
âMinimum of 3 years environmental, health & safety experience
âStrong knowledge and experience with EHS regulations and workers' compensation law
âExperience within the brewing industry is preferred but not mandatory
âRefined communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
âStrong technical skills with the ability to explain complex issues and requirements verbally and in writing in an easily understood manner
âInclination to lead with good energy and sense of urgency. Works well on cross-functional teams, whether in a lead or support role.
âAbility to read and understand chemical properties and apply them to hazard assessment information
âAbility to read and interpret regulations and technical documents
âProficiency using Google Workspace
âAptitude to quickly learn new software platforms
âAbility to respond effectively to specialized inquiries
âSelf-directed and demonstrated ability to implement strategic EHS plans
âExperience calibrating monitoring equipment
âWillingness to work flexible hours
âMust be able to read, speak and write the English language with proficiency and correct grammar
âMust be able to travel at least annually within the country
âPossession of professional certifications ASP, CSP, CIH, CRM, CBCP, or other related certification preferred
âBi-lingual preferred Spanish/English
Job Details:
âLocation: Based out of Milford, CT – Onsite presence required.
âSalary: Commensurate with experience - Base salary and opportunities for performance bonuses. *
Salary Range - $60- 80k/year
