This Opportunity
WSP is seeking a team-oriented and self-directed candidate to support their San Diego, CA Environmental Water Group. Recent experience supporting regulatory compliance programs in stormwater, the aquatic environment, and/or experience working in an environmental laboratory setting. Experience working as part of field teams, and being knowledgeable in the collection of field data, particularly related to stormwater and use of water quality collection instruments. Strong field, writing, and data QA/QC skills are required.
Experience and fluency using MS Excel, the ability to follow strict QA/QC procedures and strong attention to detail is required. Knowledge of statistical procedures, analytical chemistry, and project management skills are desired. Experience with ArcGIS and PowerBI is preferred.
Ideal candidate will have knowledge of National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) programs, the Clean Water Act Sections 401 and 404; the Porter-Cologne Act; Stormwater programs; Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Permits; and other applicable local, state, and federal regulations and guidance.
Experience working in Southern California is preferred.
Your Impact
• Participating in dry weather and wet weather water quality monitoring projects with senior scientists and other staff level scientists
• Recording field measurements and preparing field reports
• Managing and analyzing field collected data and laboratory chemistry results
• Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) related to data and report review
• Preparing report text and maps, data tables and summaries, and conducting statistical analyses of field collected and laboratory data
• Assisting in the preparation of monitoring annual reports
• Technical and scientific writing
• Field and Project Management
• Participating in regional scientific organizations
Who You Are
Required Qualifications:
• 1-3 years of experience
• B.S. in Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Ecology, Chemistry, Engineering, or Related Field
• Familiar with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements
• Experience with the installation and operation of water quality monitoring instrumentation/equipment including water quality field meters, water quality samplers, and flow meters
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience
• Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment
• Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
• Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek
• Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements
Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $64,700 - $97,000
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
