General Description
Under the direction of the Regulatory Compliance and Planning Manager, the Environmental Scientist will play a key role in ensuring operational compliance by providing expert regulatory and environmental guidance. The primary focus will be on potable water and wastewater systems, with additional responsibilities spanning multiple environmental media, including hazardous waste management, industrial wastewater, and stormwater management. This position will involve auditing, permitting, reporting, and various compliance-related activities, ensuring that all operations adhere to applicable environmental regulations. The Environmental Scientist will work closely with a skilled team to support and advance environmental compliance, management, and stewardship initiatives.
How You Will Fulfill Your Mission
- Provide program management support and subject matter expertise in areas which include drinking water, surface water, stormwater, environmental resource permits, wetland delineation, industrial wastewater, domestic wastewater and septic systems, consumptive use, limited use wells, underground injection control, and construction dewatering.
- Manage NASA-KSC water quality records.
- Participates in spill, release, and emissions event/incident investigations as assigned.
- Participate in regulatory agency inspections and audits.
- Review proposed regulations and identify impacts and risks to NASA-KSC operations.
- Responsible for any environmental tasks that may be assigned to manage environmental department workload and site environmental compliance.
- Assist NASA customers and other commercial tenants to ensure compliance with industrial wastewater permitting.
- Manage and update the KSC Industrial Wastewater Inventory (KIWI) as requested.
- Support environmental due diligence efforts as assigned.
- Support surveillance inspections as a subject matter expert for various environmental media such as stormwater, potable water, domestic wastewater and septic systems, and industrial wastewater.

Specific Knowledge/Certification Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of science in environmental science, environmental management, physical science, or related field.
- Minimum four (4) years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of environmental regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a team member across technical disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Geographic Information System (GIS) experience
- Government contracting experience.
