Position Summary
This position plans for, recognizes, evaluates, and controls problems and potential losses in the areas of safety, health, environmental, training, emergency response, security, and fire protection. It ensures compliance with federal, state, local, and Company safety, health, and environmental regulations / policies through active engagement with facility operations. The position will submit recommendations for maintaining and enhancing compliance processes and procedures. The position will be responsible for assisting the Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Manager with regulatory reporting, permitting, and plan writing.
Knowledge of construction safety and environmental regulations; experience in environmental monitoring and record keeping preferred
Experience working with Federal, state and local governmental regulations including environmental regulations such as RCRA and NPDES
Experience documenting situations, solutions, etc.
Ability to take on frequent new challenges and new initiatives
Excellent English communications skills including ability to read, write, and speak fluently; ability to communicate with truck drivers, contractors, and co-workers
Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office suite, Google platform, various email and internet programs and applications, financial programs, database programs, safety protocols and other programs and applications used by the Company
Ability to prioritize work; multi-tasking skills; good listener

Task & Responsibilities
Provides health, safety, and environmental related communications to all employees
Provides oversight for fire protection equipment; reviews monthly inspections / documentation
Audits work permitting program, including Lock Out Tagout / confined space entry / hot work permits for maintenance employees and contractors; performs frequent checks on contractors’ projects; ensures compliance with procedures
Writes policies and procedures to ensure contractor compliance with regulations and manufacturers’ recommendations
Assists SHE Manager with SHE regulatory reporting and processing permit applications.
Oversees and maintains safety, health, and environmental computer based training programs for employees; ensures contractors have appropriate safety / security class and training.
Performs air monitoring and inspections; inspects safety procedures and adherence at designated operating areas; ensures compliance with safety and security rules.
Conducts and documents required safety orientation for new hires. Assist SHE Manager with hazardous waste operations and spill response training.
Trains regularly on all Federal, state and local environmental regulations, requirements and guidelines including, but not limited to, RCRA and California regulatory requirements; follows and adheres to all guidelines, regulations, and requirements.
Assists with accident and incident investigation; determines root cause; documents findings; makes preventative recommendations; enters incidents into database system.
Responds to reports of unusual odors, noise, etc.; takes appropriate action.
Maintains and updates SHE documentation as required.
Reviews response plans and Company manuals; combines data to create an integrated contingency plan; participates in regulatory drills.
Gathers documentation and disseminates information and suggested topics for use in monthly safety meeting; maintains files on meetings.
Attends Local Emergency Planning Committee; participates in meetings and drills; attends seminars.
Attends safety meetings for all new projects.
Participates in customer and regulatory audits; responds to internal / external auditor questions.
Performs other duties assigned by management that fall within the generally expected scope of this position.

This position requires an employee to be in an office environment as well as exposed to outside elements. Most extreme elements are heat in the summer months of up to 100°F+ and some exposure to cold of generally no less than 30°F in the winter months. There will be exposure to various chemicals and compounds, including fumes and smells, some of them hazardous. The employee may enter confined spaces and work in elevated environments. Employee must be able to wear PPE required by the location. General office noise may be experienced and louder sounds and vibrations when outside. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. All environments are safe with appropriate PPE.
