DescriptionThe Carolinas Environmental Manager will work closely with the Southeast Regional Leadership Team to manage and grow the Environmental Services in the Carolinas. The Environmental Manager will create and implement business development initiatives; manage clients and projects; manage field work and schedules; and, help train and mentor staff.
The successful candidate will be well versed in environmental consulting services within Land Development which may include, but not be limited to: wetland/stream delineations, threatened and endangered species habitat surveys, Section 404/401 Permitting, stormwater compliance inspections. Additional experience in Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, and/or Brownfields Redevelopment is a plus, but not a requirement. The ideal candidate will be an energetic seller/doer with a strong professional network in the Carolinas and the desire to grow our existing team. This position is based out of the Charlotte, North Carolina office.
Duties
- Attend divisional business development meetings as well as relevant regional and market business development meetings, sometimes after-hours.
- Review technical reports, prepare proposals and lead proposal teams as necessary.
- Through a respectful, constructive, and energetic style, provide leadership and career development opportunities to 2-3 existing staff members in the Charlotte, North Carolina office to foster a success-oriented and accountable environment.
- Project and program management, including tracking project budgets, heavy client interaction, scheduling staff, reviewing deliverables, interacting with agency representatives, etc.
- Networking with prospective clients and pursuit of prospects via Business Development activities such as lunches, events, etc.
- Maintain/nurture existing client relationships.
- Join relevant organizations for community engagement and networking purposes.
- Develop thought leadership-articles, presentations, etc.
- Monitor industry trends and react accordingly.
- Collaborate with other Divisions and market sectors to cross-sell services across the firm.
- Continue building technical expertise and encourage staff to build technical expertise.
- Develop staff, backlog, and a client network to promote a long term sustainable environmental practice in the Carolinas.
- Grow our existing environmental practice in the Carolinas. Achieve key performance indicators and maintain productivity and profitability of the Carolinas Environmental group.
Requirements - B.S. degree (minimum), preferably M.S., in environmental science, biology, geology, or engineering.
- 10+ years of environmental consulting experience in wetland/stream delineations, threatened and endangered species habitat surveys, Section 404/401 Permitting, NEPA level studies and/or stormwater compliance inspections.
- Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS), training in the North Carolina Wetland Assessment Method (NCWAM) and NC Stream Assessment Method (NCSAM) and/or a Certified Erosion, Sediment, and Stormwater Inspector (CESSWI) a plus.
- Additional experience or general knowledge in additional environmental due diligence services, such as Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, and/or Brownfields Redevelopment is a plus, but not a requirement.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) license a plus, but not a requirement.
- Experience leading and mentoring junior staff.
- Strong communication skills (active listening, written and oral).
- Highly motivated, with excellent client service skills and attitude.
- Strong project management skills.
- Excellent technical writing ability.
- Organized multi-tasker with ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
