Summary
The Material Handler II will process materials such as cans, PET bottles and glass bottles to prepare for shipment and further recycling. The Material Handler II will operate machinery to sort, count or empty containers, process and record container counts, operate a forklift to move materials, and meet established productivity standards.
Work Schedule
This is a part-time position - Saturdays and Sundays only.
Day shift: 6 am - 2:30 pm (Shift differential 12%)
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Obtain and maintain forklift certification
- Safely operate forklifts with various attachments to move material throughout the plant
- Safely operate other equipment such as balers, conveyors, weigh scales, dock plates, and pallet jacks
- Adhere to all OSHA Safety Standards and OBRC policies
- Follow instructions for operating equipment and keeping records
- Perform daily inspections of assigned forklift following internal process and notify Supervisor/Maintenance of needed repairs
- Load and unload trainers, both with and without forklifts
- Transport raw material to production workstations
- Produce active logs of trailers, identify damage, determine need of repair
- Unload materials from incoming vehicles and stack them in assigned places or staged for process
- Verify loads against the shipping papers, noting in writing any overages, shortages or damage
- Prepare material for shipment by sorting, stacking, wrapping shells and pallets, and weighing and tagging bales of aluminum, PET, cardboard and film
- Perform daily housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and orderly facility
- Complete other job duties as assigned and assist other Material Handlers
Education/Experience
- High School Diploma or GED preferred, or any equivalent combination of training, experience and education that demonstrates the ability to perform key responsibilities of this position
- Prior forklift experience is preferred

- Maintain an accident free record. Forklift accidents may invalidate your certification and can result in a demotion or disciplinary action

- Able to work variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights requiring extra hours, weekends and holidays due to varying volumes

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
This position works in a production plant setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. This position works around sharp objects and can get wet and sticky from full and empty beverage containers. The environment can be cold, hot or humid.
While performing the duties of this job, this employee is regularly required to communicate. This position is very active and the employee will frequently stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. The position involves standing, bending, walking and lifting up to 50 pounds repeatedly for long periods of time throughout the day. Pushing and pulling of carts full of recyclable material. Safely climb on top of, around and under machinery. Climb ladders, stairs and walk on catwalks as needed. Due to the nature of the job, good eyesight and hearing are important.
