Title: Energy Storage Technical Specialist
The Energy Storage Technical Specialist will provide battery energy storage system (BESS) engineering leadership, deploying a deep understanding of energy storage products and system optimization to identify opportunities to create more value for projects. Working together with teams representing a full project lifecycle from development to construction to operations, this role will define the solution sets that enable East Point to execute on our energy storage pipeline effectively.
The Energy Storage Technical Specialist will fulfill a key subject matter expert role on the East Point team. The Technical Specialist will work closely with members of the development engineering, project development, business development, EPC and asset management teams to support the development and growth of East Point’s energy storage portfolios. This position will report directly to the Director of Development Engineering.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Define and maintain energy storage equipment standards and specifications to be used by the project development and project engineering teams
- Collaborate with the Procurement team and vendors to maintain accurate and competitive CAPEX and OPEX assumptions
- Maintain relationships and keep up to date with key ESS and inverter equipment manufacturers alongside the Procurement Manager
- Lead evaluations of current and future product models from various OEMs as well as new energy storage technologies
- Perform value engineering for projects at all stages from development to engineering & construction, and ultimately to asset management
- Collaborate with engineering and business development teams to create customized degradation and augmentation outlooks for projects
- Manage and solve key challenges that arise during a project lifecycle and create a central location to store lessons learned
- Learn from project stakeholders in the office and in the field, and manage feedback loops to continuously improve the company’s product standards and designs
- Train new engineers and other project stakeholders on our energy storage systems and designs
- Create standard operating procedures (SOPs) and tools to empower project stakeholders and enable them to work effectively and efficiently
- Collaborate with a cross-functional team on developing, implementing, and communicating ESS fire safety protocols, risk assessment, and emergency response planning
Skills:
- Demonstrated understanding of the market for distribution and utility-scale energy storage engineering
- Experience and familiarity with current market of energy storage technologies, particularly LFP
- Working knowledge of NFPA standards, electrical standards (UL/IEEE) and National Electrical Code, U.S. utility interconnection standards
- Knowledge of predictive modelling tools, specifically involving degradation a plus
- Proficiency with AutoCAD a plus
- Public speaking skills and experience presenting projects at public hearings are a plus
- Ability to review and interpret construction drawings for technical requirements
- Proficiency with Microsoft software suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Teams, etc.)

Education & Experience:
- 3+ years of experience with energy storage project development, design, or construction with a focus on energy storage technical/products support
- 2+ years of utility scale (50+ MW) renewable / storage industry experience preferred
- Applicants with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical or other relevant engineering are preferred
Travel & Time Commitment:
- Approximately 30% of time will be on the road; will vary based on status of projects
- This is a full-time, exempt salaried position. Standard office hours are from 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM ET. The demands of projects may require work outside of these times.

Location:
East Point Energy office in Charlottesville, VA preferred. We are open to hybrid or remote work candidates who are willing to travel often to the East Point Energy offices.
