As a Systems Engineer focusing on Functional Safety on the Power Delivery Team, you will play a key role in driving Ample’s functional safety efforts forward towards building a safe battery pack. Functional safety is a mission-critical part of Ample’s product roadmap. You will serve as the primary owner for functional safety in Ample’s system design for the Battery Pack and work in a highly cross functional environment decomposing product features into system requirements, identifying hazards and performing risk analyses, designing architectures to mitigate risks and producing safety analyses
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- You will support creating process documentation for key work products in development at the system level as per ISO 26262-4:2018.
- Derive Technical Safety Requirements related to the Battery Pack from the functional safety concept.
- Compose System Architecture specifications (both natural language and semi-formal notations) including static and dynamic architecture diagrams with standardized methodologies according to the ISO 26262 standard.
- Lead functional safety activities during the product development life cycle, including concept, requirements gathering, design, risk analysis, verification/validation, and release, working with a broad set of design engineers, program managers, and test engineers
- Perform FMEA, fault tree, HARA, and other risk assessment processes for new and existing products at the systems level
- Write/own documentation packages for functional safety certification reviews
- Teach core functional safety concepts in the systems design to our engineering and certification teams
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience performing functional safety design for automotive embedded systems and 5+ years of experience in systems engineering roles (3 with Masters)
- Professional experience developing compliant products to functional safety standards like ISO 26262, IEC 61508, UL/IEC 60730 or similar
- Deep understanding of the standard ISO 26262:2018 Part 4 - Product Development at the System Level, and its underlying rationale
- Expert ability to come up with System Design specification including semi-formal notations using SysML, UML or other system modeling languages
- Written communication skills to write requirements at the system level using industry best practice methods using tools like IBM DNG, Jama, or Polarion, etc.
- Experience in composing system architecture using State Machines, Data Flow Diagrams, Block Diagrams, Context Diagram, and other methods.
- Ability to derive, analyze and assess different failure modes and their respective hazards including qualitative and quantitative analysis methods like System DFMEA, FTA, DFA, and others
- Hands-on Experience in any Systems Architecture modeling tools like Medini analyze, System composer, Enterprise Architect, Cameo Magic, IBM Rhapsody etc.
BONUS SKILLS:
- Specific experience with distributed energy, power electronics, and/or lithium-ion battery design and/or safety evaluations is a plus
- Professional experience with risk mitigation strategies including static/runtime analysis, stress testing, coding guidelines (such as MISRA, HIS Metrics), software-in-the-loop testing and hardware-in-the-loop testing, etc. is a plus
- Experience working with Battery Systems that are (or targeted) ASIL-D certification for ISO26262.
- Knowledge of AUTOSAR architecture
- Experience designing Model-based systems design (MBSE) for safety-critical systems using any modeling tools like Cameo, MATLAB/Simulink or Ansys SCADE
- Working with MEDINI Analyze to assess Safety Goals, Quantitative and Qualitative FTA, Diagnostic Coverage, FIT rates, etc.
