Role Summary:
The Site Execution Head for Solar Projects will be responsible for the overall management, execution, and coordination of solar power plant construction, focusing on both electrical and civil aspects along with the Balance of Plant (BOP) activities. The role involves ensuring timely, safe, high-quality execution of all site activities, compliance with project specifications, and optimal resource utilization.
The candidate will lead multidisciplinary teams, interface with engineering, procurement, and other departments, and oversee the end-to-end construction process, from site preparation to commissioning, ensuring the successful completion of solar projects.

Job Responsibilities:
1. Project Planning & Execution
- Develop detailed work plans and schedules for site execution activities (both civil and electrical) to ensure timely completion of all phases of the project in line with agreed AOPs.
- Oversee both electrical and civil works, including site grading, foundation construction, module installation, and electrical equipment installation.
- Ensure smooth execution of Balance of Plant (BOP) components, such as electrical infrastructure (transformers, substations) transmission lines, and interconnection to the grid., SCADA systems, and civil works like roads, drainage, and fencing.
- Monitor and manage project progress to meet milestones and deadlines, proactively addressing issues to prevent delays.
- Collaborate with the procurement team to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment to the site.
2. Site Management & Supervision
- Supervise the installation of all electrical systems, including transformers, inverters, switchgear, and cabling, ensuring adherence to industry standards and project specifications.
- Oversee the installation and commissioning of electrical infrastructure, ensuring efficient power evacuation from the solar plant.
- Ensure compliance with electrical codes, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
- Manage the testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical systems, ensuring that all components are operating as required
- Manage civil works on-site, including land preparation, foundation works, roads, drainage systems, and fencing.
- Oversee the construction of control rooms, substations, and other civil infrastructure as part of the BOP.
- Ensure that civil engineering activities such as foundation work, trenching, and structural installations are executed according to design specifications.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, engineers, and on-site personnel to manage day-to-day operations of civil construction.
- Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with design, safety standards, and quality guidelines.
3. Team and Contractor Management
- Lead a multi-disciplinary team, including site engineers, contractors, and laborers, ensuring effective coordination between civil and electrical teams.
- Ensure effective resource mobilization and de-mob as per defined project schedules.
- Evaluate the performance of contractors and sub-contractors, ensuring adherence to contractual obligations, safety regulations, and quality standards.
- Manage contractor relationships, address disputes, and ensure efficient problem resolution to maintain project momentum.
- Ensure that all workers adhere to site safety protocols and that the project site is following safety regulations and environmental standards.
4. Cost Control & Documentation
- Monitor and control project costs by managing labor, materials, and equipment, ensuring adherence to project budgets.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of site activities, including daily progress reports, labor and equipment logs, and inspection records.
- Review and approve contractor bills, timesheets, and other financial documentation related to site activities.
5. Testing, Commissioning & Handover
- Oversee the testing and commissioning of electrical systems, solar panels, inverters, transformers, and other site equipment.
- Ensure that all systems are operational and meet the required performance standards before handover.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of as-built drawings, test reports, and handover documentation to the client.
6. Safety, Quality, and Compliance
- Enforce strict adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for all site personnel.
- Ensure that the project adheres to industry standards, quality control protocols, and statutory regulations, including electrical codes and civil construction norms.
- Implement and monitor Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes to maintain high standards of workmanship and material quality.
- Conduct safety audits and toolbox talks to ensure compliance with site safety requirements.
7. Stakeholder Coordination
- Liaise with design teams, project managers, engineers, and other departments to align site activities with project objectives.
- Collaborate with external stakeholders, such as local authorities, vendors, and contractors, to ensure the smooth execution of the project.
- Manage relationships with clients and consultants by providing regular updates on project progress, challenges, and solutions.
Job Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree or MBA in project management is a plus.
Experience:
- Minimum 18 - 24 years of experience in site execution and construction management for large-scale solar power plants.
- Strong experience managing civil and electrical aspects of solar project construction, including Balance of Plant (BOP) systems.
- Hands-on experience with solar PV installation, electrical systems, and civil construction of 300 MW and beyond in solar sectors is essential.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in AutoCAD, project management software, and MS Office.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical codes (e.g., IEC, NEC) and civil construction standards.
- Experience managing BOP systems including substations, transformers, earthing systems, and SCADA.
- Certifications in project management (PMP), site safety (OSHA), or construction management would be advantageous.
