Role: Assistant Underwriter – Renewable Energy

Position type: Full time, permanent (minimum 4 days a week in the London office)
We are seeking an experienced Assistant Underwriter to join our Renewables team at MS Amlin. As a key member of the underwriting team, you will play a crucial role in making sound underwriting decisions and contributing to the operational delivery of our strategy.
You will be part of the Renewables team within the Natural Resources division. We write a global portfolio of risks, of varying technology, complexity and size.
The role would also provide a solid foundation and opportunity to develop a career in Underwriting.
About The Job
What you’ll spend your time doing:
Responsible for analysing and writing risks in accordance with the agreed parameters – making sound, profitable long term decisions with a focus on smart rationale underwriting.
Support quotes, underwriting and service of allocated accounts and operate within agreed authority parameters
Ensure risks are analysed and written in accordance with the agreed parameters – making sound, profitable long term decisions with a focus on smart rationale underwriting.
Develop and maintain strong client and broker relationships, demonstrating a deep understanding of their needs and the market.
Assist in arranging and attending client meetings to build strong relationships and drive business growth.
Represent MS Amlin at corporate and networking events, upholding our values and behaviours
Track and report developments affecting the business of the class and raise as appropriate, to the Senior Underwriters or Underwriting Management
Collaborate with senior underwriters to develop pricing models and ensure accurate risk assessments.
Liaise with the claims team to keep up-to-date with claims situations and ensure timely resolution.
Manage queries professionally and efficiently, ensuring excellent customer service.
Monitor premium payments and liaise with brokers and CRT as necessary.
Accuracy checking & write up notes as part of UW sign-off
Liaise and ensure regional compliance with underwriting management, taking corrective action where necessary and operating within agreed authorities, ensuring that underwriting controls are properly managed
What you’ll need
Must have relevant underwriting experience in Renewables Underwriting, looking to progress to full Underwriting authority within a short timeframe.
Established relationships with brokers and strong knowledge of the renewables market.
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to question the status quo and create solutions.
Diploma in CII and working towards completion of ACII
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Sound financial and commercial acumen.
Strong Excel and numeracy skills.
Self-motivation & strong organisational skills
