Dynamic and Seismic Analyses on parts and components which may include dynamic loads and vibration, Jet Impingment, Jet Reaction, Acoustic and Blast Wave Loads.. The Engineer will operate in a matrixed engineering team to ensure high quality deliverables in accordance with customer requirements, business procedures and regulatory agency guidelines. Person should be familiar with the nuclear industry and ASME codes.
Job Description
Responsible for mechanical analysis activities that support:
- GE's existing fleet of BWRs and/or
- GE’s BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR)
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide technical guidance and leadership, oversee project scheduling and resource planning, develop talent through mentorship, and act as the point-of-contact between your engineering team and both internal and external customers.
- Responsible for the delivery of high-quality engineering analyses.
- Confirm Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) or Reactor Internals components meet structural dynamic, stress and fatigue criteria.
- Experience with performing High Energy Line Break Analysis and Fuel Lift Analysis. May involve also SCRAM load analysis.
- Qualify RPV or Reactor Internals repairs or replacement components considering static, dynamic, thermal, and flow-induced loads.
- Translate design information into detailed finite element models of BWR primary structures and equipment using Finite Element methods (Ansys Classic/APDL and Work Bench) and GE in-house computer codes.
- Develop creative solutions and reduce analysis complexity to create accurate and effective solutions for complex engineering problems.
- Analyze primary plant structures to develop loads and response characteristics.
- Engage customers to define scope, review results, and discuss technical risks.
- Liaise with customers, in partnership with engineering leadership and Project Management.
- Interface with cross-functional teams and departments necessary to complete assigned system design activities.
- Improve areas of project execution and department management through lean methodology and Design to Cost principles.
- Provide clear and complete analysis documentation in accordance with GE engineering procedures. Analysis results typically provided in an engineering report for use by external customers.
- Coach and mentor less experienced engineers to increase overall knowledge while assuring a successful outcome.
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other engineering discipline from an accredited college or University.
- Significant proven experience performing mechanical seismic and dynamic analysis with Ansys
- Familiar with visual basic in Excel, APDL, Python, PROCD.
- Experience in the nuclear field/industry.
- Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives, effectively facilitate meetings and provide coaching and mentoring to less experienced coworkers.
- Fluent communication in English and Polish.
Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree or greater in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or University.
- Nuclear Industry knowledge / experience.
- Significant proven experience performing mechanical analysis using ANSYS and APDL (dynamic and seismic analysis, vibrations, fatigue, fracture mechanics, and drafting practices (including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing).
- Knowledge in Seismic and Dynamic Analysis
- Working knowledge of the ASME Section III and XI Codes.
- ASME Section III Class 1 Fatigue design experience.
- A self-starter willing to take initiative.
Eligibility Requirements:
- The preferred work location for this role is at the GE Vernova Engineering Innovation Center in Warsaw, Poland, but highly qualified candidates will be considered with hybrid work option.
