Plug Power is an industry leader with respect to providing hydrogen and hydrogen-powered fuel cell systems for material handling equipment, backup power systems, and emerging on-road applications. As the Senior Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development and integration of Plug Power’s fuel cell systems. You will play a pivotal role in driving the advancement of our technology, ensuring its reliability, performance, and compliance with industry standards. The ideal candidate should exhibit exceptional communication and project management skills along with a well-rounded knowledge base in systems engineering. Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Research and develop system requirements for new fuel cell applications conforming to the applicable codes and standards. Create system and subsystem specification documentation.
- Conduct thorough system-level analyses, including risk assessments, failure mode and effects analyses (FMEA), and system performance evaluations.
- Create, read and interpret Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
- Develop and deploy state machines and controls solutions for the design and optimization of fuel cell systems, considering factors such as efficiency, performance, cost and reliability
- Create and manage methods for data acquisition and interpretation of system information
- Develop and validate key metrics through system modeling, test plans and execution to maintain key product attributes including efficiency, performance, cost, reliability and compliance with codes and standards.
- Build effective internal relationships with colleagues, work both inter-departmentally and cross-functionally as needed for project assignments
- Provide ongoing communication and updates to senior leadership regarding project progress and escalate priority issues so that obstacles can be cleared
- Represent Plug Power in a professional manner in all interactions.
Education and Experience
- BS in Engineering or a STEM related discipline required, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, systems engineering preferred
- Minimum of five years of related work experience, preferably in fuel cell systems or related field
- Strong knowledge and understanding of fuel cell systems, including system architecture, components, controls, and integration
- Demonstrated aptitude for systems thinking and creative problem solving
- Ability to communicate complex concepts simply and efficiently
- Dynamic interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences and stakeholders
- Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively
- Teamwork oriented and focused
- Excellent task-oriented follow-through
- Ability to travel as needed
- Computer and software systems skills as applicable to position including but not limited to: C, MATLAB (including Simulink), SQL, MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio and Outlook)
