Job Description
NREL's Site Operations Group keeps the laboratory running by providing facility management and support major mechanical systems. The focus of the work of the Facilities Technician is to keep campus facilities up and running efficiently. This work often includes fixing fans, pumps, compressors, refrigeration systems (including charging, evacuating, and repairing), plumbing, and various forms of piping.
Job duties:
- Perform and direct preventive maintenance on facility systems
- Perform installation and repairs on facility systems
- Guide and inspect outside contractors' work
- Establish monthly and annual preventive maintenance schedules
- Perform on-call projects
- Follow all ES&H policies and procedures to ensure and maintain safe working environment
Basic Qualifications
Relevant Associate's Degree or certification program of comparable scope in construction, mechanical or electrical technology and 4 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Full knowledge of general maintenance. Basic knowledge of facility systems and mechanical, electrical and pneumatic equipment. Basic troubleshooting skills. Ability to read blueprints. Basic project administration skills. Very good team and interpersonal skills.

Additional Required Qualifications
Must have (or be able to obtain) and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Trouble shooting capability;
Ability to lift over 70 pounds on a routine basis;
Demonstrated ability to work on a team and independently to accomplish tasks;
Strong customer service skills.
