Job Description and Duties
Under the general direction of the Branch Chief, a Staff Services Manager I in the Division of Safety and Management Services (DSMS), the incumbent serves as an analyst providing administrative, training and analytical support for the Workers' Compensation and Return-to-Work Program. Specifically, the incumbent will handle a case load of Caltrans employees with workers’ compensation claims by: 1) Consulting with employees, supervisors, and managers regarding medical issues, reasonable accommodation, return to work, and other related concerns; 2) coordinating with various stakeholders regarding assigned cases; 3) reviewing and interpreting medical reports to determine the most appropriate course of action; 4) maintaining accurate and complete case documentation using electronic claim files housed in a shared network drive, spread sheets, and database; 5) evaluating, authorizing, and/or recommending claim settlement solutions; 6) facilitating resolution of employment status for employees unable to return to work in their usual occupation. The incumbent is expected to utilize good organization/time management techniques to appropriately prioritize and complete work in a timely and accurate manner, display a positive attitude, and cultivate a team environment to help accomplish the Division’s Missions and Goals.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Associate Governmental Program Analyst exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
