Under the direction of an IT Supervisor II, the incumbent serves as a Database Administrator supporting database operations in the Sacramento District Office/HQ and surrounding area.
The incumbent works collaboratively with management and staff to provide the administrative and technical support for the Database infrastructure environments. This includes but is not limited to database operations, security, capacity planning, backup/recovery, patching/upgrading, change management, monitoring, and performance tuning. The incumbent performs complex activities of the System Development Lifecycle which includes systems: analysis, design, build, test, maintenance, and operations. The incumbent provides end user training in the configuration and use of client technologies. The incumbent collaborates with peers and management to update and recommend standards, processes and procedures, and technology practices. The incumbent tracks, monitors, and audits IT assets to maintain accountability using standard asset management tools and techniques in compliance with the State Administrative Manual and other applicable policies and regulations. The incumbent also performs functions including, but are not limited to, researching, writing, reporting, presenting, etc.

- Proficiency in popular DBMS like Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to address database issues.
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience collaborating with other IT teams, developers, and business units.
- Experience in optimizing database performance and resource allocation.
- Familiarity with scripting languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation tasks.
- Familiarity with cloud database solutions (e.g., Azure SQL Database, PowerBI).
- Experience managing database projects, including migrations and upgrades.
- Understanding of database security practices, including access control and encryption.
