Role Summary
The CMF (Color, Materials, Finish) Mastering Specialist at Rivian will focus on supporting the development and aesthetic mastering of interior and exterior materials by managing color, gloss, grain, and haptics. They will collaborate with suppliers and engineering teams to ensure materials meet Rivian’s quality standards and design requirements. This role involves overseeing program timelines, participating in design reviews, and ensuring materials comply with regulations while maintaining a high standard of quality. The role also requires travel and effective communication skills to support cross-functional team collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Support color and construction aesthetic mastering of color, gloss, grain, and haptic for interior and exterior materials.
- Track program timelines to ensure standards are met for production.
- Support suppliers and engineering teams to develop new materials that meet Rivian quality standards and design requirements.
- Work closely with suppliers and cross-functional teams to procure on-time, production-feasible materials that meet design intent against aggressive timelines.
- Work with Materials Engineering as they conduct material tests and assessments to ensure compliance with industry regulations and performance expectations.
- Support maintenance of CMF material library.
- Hold high standards for quality, attention to detail, and build strong relationships with other team members.
- Participate in design reviews, presentations, and meetings. Effectively communicating CMF mastering status and design direction.
- Attend Harmony Reviews and support Design Quality in Design Validation Approval AAR process.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years equivalent in relevant professional experience. i.e. Design, Textile Science, Chemistry, Materials Development, or similar
- Farnsworth Munsell 100 Hue Test – Superior Color Discrimination
- Excellent communication and organization skills.
- Self-motivated, flexible, adaptable to change, and work independently.
- Ability to manage multiple parallel-path projects.
- Working knowledge of materials development, automotive mass production and manufacturing processes is preferred.
- High passion about the brand, the work and the ability to positively impact others. Passionate about new sustainable material solutions and circularity.
- Experience in all Adobe CS programs as well as all Microsoft Office programs.
- Travel required up to 20%
