ENERGY MANAGEMENT AT AIR LIQUIDE
Air Liquide is an energy-intensive company, aligning the sourcing and selling of large amounts of energy (electricity and natural gas), and developing new investment projects where energy management aspects are key elements of the business development phase. Energy Management is at the core of Air Liquide business model, competitiveness, profitability and sustainability. It encompasses sourcing, procurement, regulatory activities, commercial structuring, portfolio management & transactional optimization.
The role of the Energy Management team of AL LI NAM is to optimize and decarbonize AL LI NAM energy portfolio and to mitigate risk exposures, both at operational and strategic levels. The team also provides energy management support to other Air Liquide affiliates and activities in North America. The team drives daily and short term operational transactions and defines mid- to long-term strategies. It relies on subject matter experts in specific energy domains, able to provide expertise, direction, and leverage to the whole organization. The energy managers work in close contact, externally, with suppliers and energy markets, and, internally, with operational, commercial and business development teams.
The Decarbonization Strategy and Risk Manager is a member of Energy and Operations Management and reports to the Director Decarbonized Energy Solutions. The position is located in Houston, TX. This position also engages with Electronics, Hydrogen Energy, to ensure NAM Cluster emissions forecasts are well managed including new investment decisions and growth. Also regularly engages with Group Sustainability, LI WBL experts, and LI ESG.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Owns, along with the Climate Champion, the NAM Cluster decarbonization roadmap as related to both scope one and scope two emissions. Responsible for maintaining a detailed understanding of the decarbonization levers and risk, as well as the evolution of decarbonized commercial offers. Directly responsible for the semi-annual reforecast of the Cluster carbon trajectories.
Strategy
Develop, own and maintain the NAM Cluster Decarbonization Strategy and Carbon trajectory.
Engage with Entities and associated Operations Control teams to aggregate and maintain the Cluster carbon roadmap and emissions forecast (including both annual Target and ADVANCE exercises). This engagement includes entitie’s carbon forecasts, levers to achieve, growth ambitions and objectives,
Responsible for understanding the evolution of the view of Scope 3 emissions to Air Liquide’s reporting as well as how customers are evolving in their Scope 3 reporting requirements and objective as it relates to industrial gas purchases.
Identify local training needs as relates to decarbonization and identify key populations requiring training. Develop, with the help of subject matter experts, training materials.
Engage regularly with Sustainability to develop the competency to act as the Subject Matter Expert on Product Carbon Footprint throughout the Cluster including LI, IM, and H2E business lines. Develop guidelines for LI NAM to issue and maintain auditable Product Carbon Footprint calculations, leveraging the Group’s WBL recommendations.
Tactical
Responsible for identifying deviations in emissions reporting from forecast and work with entities to re-align future forecasts as appropriate or reconcile deviations.
Maintaining a view on attribute banking and ensuring that the emission reporting and attribute retirement remain well signed as a secondary check for the entities.
Ensure all CPR and RIC emissions associations are incorporated into carbon forecasts and are well documented.
Support Climate Champion in verifying correct CO2 footprint table data, along with proper documentation, in CPR and RIC documents.
Responsible for the Cluster level confirmation on reporting and retirement of associated attributes, i.e. conducting self-audits.
Calculating Product Carbon Footprint for customers upon request. Executing Product Carbon Footprint related deliverables for low carbon offers.
Responsible for leading carbon related certification efforts
Responsible for coordinating the decision making regarding where RECs are specifically retired in order to most effectively meet Cluster objectives and customer obligations.

Are you a MATCH?
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business required.
Minimum of 5 years of sustainability strategy execution, or minimum of 8 years within the industrial gas business with specific experience in strategy development, and operations control.
Candidates must have valid employment authorization in the U.S. and must not require visa sponsorship now or in the future. This position is not open for non-immigrant visa sponsorship.
Prior experience with strategy development, as well as business forecasting
Established industry network a plus.
Strong analytical skills and strategic mindset. Ability to analyze data and develop commercial and financial strategies. Ability to develop a deep understanding of a business unit’s strategy and business requirements.
Ability to deliver high quality analyses and recommendations, autonomously and with limited oversight.
Ability to manage initiatives and projects from idea generation through to execution and delivery. Strong interpersonal, networking, negotiation and facilitation skills. Ability to form working alliances with internal customers.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; including the ability to produce high quality documents and presentations.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 15%.
