Hydrogen and low carbon fuels are expected to play a significant role in decarbonizing the world’s energy supply to mitigate climate change. DNV carries out an extensive range of hydrogen and low carbon fuels projects, including advising governments, infrastructure owners and major developers on technology, economic, environmental, regulatory and policy issues. We help our customers to navigate the complex issues involved in selecting and deploying hydrogen and low carbon technologies.
Job profile
The ‘senior consultant hydrogen value chain and technologies’ will be part of a team of specialists focused on hydrogen and low carbon fuels in the energy transition. The team delivers a broad suite of services that offer ways to streamline and de-risk the development and implementation of new technologies and processes to support the complete hydrogen value chain – from production, transportation, and storage, to its uses in various applications.
The team is part of a global DNV network of specialists in the hydrogen and low carbon value chain and broader decarbonisation strategies for industry, transport and build environments. It is an exciting time to join – the demand for our services in this segment is growing rapidly as countries in Europe and beyond look to deliver their climate commitments, and you will have access to some of the world’s leading experts in this field.
This position will be based in Groningen and / or in Arnhem (the Netherlands).
Your tasks include:
- Develop and deliver advisory services to customer challenges regarding the hydrogen and low carbon fuels value chain. This will include:
- Market and regulatory feasibility studies
- Techno-economic feasibility studies
- Due Diligence studies
- Deliver reports for customers, where possible identifying further business opportunities for DNV.
- Acting as business lead in EMS for services related to markets and regulations in Hydrogen, derivatives, and sustainable fuels. As primus inter pares the business lead will pro-actively lead business development efforts through proposal development and fostering positive relationships with existing and new clients.
- Actively contribute to service delivery as specialist in markets and regulations but with a broader understanding of the techno-economic aspects.
- Simultaneously work on multiple projects to the satisfaction of the customer (i.e. within the required timeframe, cost and quality standards).

QualificationsPersonal characteristics:
- A combination of strong technical as well as a market and regulatory background
- A track record in consultancy, either internally or externally;
- Strong network in the hydrogen in the Benelux and, preferably also, the low carbon fuels value chain.
- Excellent analytical skills – able to analyse and understand complex problems and create logical solutions and ideas using domain knowledge and a range of techniques.
- Effective team player, both internally and externally;
- Self-starting in developing, maintaining and applying knowledge about current and notable market issues;
- Ability to manage own time and workload effectively and meet objectives;
- Creates trust through reliable delivery and strong and stable relationships with customers;
- Promotes a diverse and inclusive culture, respects and understands cultural diversity and can communicate and connect with people at different levels;
- Able to communicate clearly through presentations and reports and catch the essence of study results.
Position Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or Phd in a relevant discipline such as (electro) chemical engineering and / or sustainability management and technologies.
- 10 years or more of experience working in the energy industry understanding challenges in the hydrogen and low carbon fuels value chain.
- In-depth knowledge in the following areas:
- Hydrogen value chain and energy system (Green/Blue)
- H2 derivatives, such as ammonia, methanol and other syn-fuels
- General knowledge of (renewable) energy production
- Extensive knowledge and expertise in the EU & global regulatory & policy frameworks and certification schemes.
- Fluent English Language Skills, preferably Dutch language skills.
