Responsibilities- Ensure Health and Safety and environmental regulations are followed methodically
- Detailed design for both medium and high voltage indoor/outdoor substations
- Preparation of one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panel arrangements, and cable schedules
- Provide mark-ups of existing substation schematic and wiring removal drawings (as applicable)
- Detailed design of power system layouts and low voltage distribution for industrial projects
- Detailed design of cable tray and lighting and layouts
- Perform calculations such as voltage drop, CT burden and saturation, short circuit, load flow, relay settings and Arc Flash using industry standard software
- Ensure conformity and completeness of engineering packages against project requirements
- Preparation of specifications, equipment datasheets and bill of materials
- Perform design of solar DC systems: PV layouts, AC and DC collector system design, string sizing and installations details for fixed and single axis tracker systems
- Perform design for wind farm systems: AC collector and wind turbine installation details
- Provide technical support during tendering, construction and commissioning
- Travel to client sites for short durations as required, perform site inspections. Candidate shall be comfortable to interacting with site construction crew (construction foreman, client and subcontractors)
Qualifications- Current authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required
- University graduation, majoring in electrical engineering
- Eligible for registration as a professional engineer with Professional Engineers Ontario PEO)
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the utility, industrial or renewable energy sectors
- Solid knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, and CSA Standards and Local Codes
- Attention to detail and pride in work quality
- Knowledge of PV system major components (PV modules, combiner boxes, inverters, AC/DC LV and MV cabling)
- Knowledge of wind turbine technologies including balance of plant design (AC cabling, major electrical components, collector design, MV and LV substation)
- Good understanding of battery energy storage system (BESS)
- Excellent verbal, written communication skills
- Strong client focus
- Resourceful team player with self-starter aptitude
- Experience with:
- Standard industry design tools such as AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite
- Electrical design software such as ETAP, SKM, CYME or Easypower
- Canadian Electrical Code, local of codes and standards
- Cable tray design, single line diagrams, electrical schematics, power system grounding, general arrangements, lighting layouts and general electrical design concepts
- Industrial power system and motor controls
- LV, MV designs and analysis, - short circuit, coordination, ampacity study and Arc flash studies is desirable
- Protection and control experience for utility substations and generating stations desirable
