ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Main purpose of the role:
The Senior Electrical Engineer will provide support for the full suite of electrical activities for EDF Renewables projects, with an emphasis on the pre-construction context. The role encompasses delivery of technical analyses and designs, as well as support for the Head of the Engineering Centre of Excellence in coordination of work packages and review and quality control within the team. Additionally, they will be expected to contribute to company strategy regarding project pipeline and development and provide training and mentoring to the team members.
Key responsibilities:
Project development
• Internal electrical design and optimisation for PV wind and BESS projects
• Loss calculations and cable sizing optimisation
• Supporting the development team with various tasks relating to environmental approvals regarding electrical infrastructure and corridors for internal reticulation
• Conducting and reporting on site visits as required
• Conducting technical due diligence examinations on prospective project acquisitions and external technical reports
• Responsible for SCADA and PPC specification
• Review and quality control of deliverables from junior engineers
• And other transversal tasks including writing of technical methods and procedures.
Design Review
• EBoP scoping and tender support
• Review and challenging of electrical designs from contractors
• Conduct or oversee feasibility studies and preliminary cost estimates for electrical and connection works during the development phase.
• Electrical risk analyses
• Support for SCADA design and reviews, including PPC/EMS for hybrid projects
• Electrical equipment specification
Review of specialised Power System/Electrical studies such as Grid Impact Studies, Short-circuit studies, Protection Coordination, Insulation Coordination, Earthing Studies, Lightning Studies, Grid Code Compliance studies, Power Quality
Contract management / Procurement
• Responsible for electrical and SCADA and PPC elements of Employers Requirements
• External study management
• Defining scopes, analysing quotes and following up with deliverables from technical advisors
• Managing relationships with suppliers and contractors
• Assissting in selecting and monitoring electrical contractors (where applicable)
Bid preparations
• Analysis and interrogation of information and pricing provided by contractors
• Ensuring full compliance of technical submissions
Construction support
• General support or electrical and SCADA topics during construction
• Support for scoping of the OE
• Support for quality assurance and milestone acceptance
• Provide support during factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT), ensuring that all systems meet the predefined specifications and quality standards
• Provide support to Grid Manager/Engineer in reviewing the Grid Code Compliance submissions.
• Involvement in commissioning
Transverse Team
• Lead the transverse electrical team that makes links between the various departments and projects to ensure lessons learnt are shared, and captured in procedures/templates/contracts etc.
• Contribute to the definition and implementation of electrical engineering processes
• Share experience and knowledge within EDF RE Electrical and SCADA community
Within specific projects the Senior Electrical Engineer could be expected to, from time to time, assume the role of Engineering Manager during bid phase of EDF Renewables projects in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa, across various technologies including wind, solar and storage with responsibilities to:
• Define project design and specifications based on bid/customer requirements, project permits and technical limits; monitor compliance in all areas;
• Manage the technical optimisation of all project elements, with a focus on reduction in cost of energy:
• Assist Project team during procurement of main components with technical specifications, Employers requirements definition and technical review of offers;
• Manage the tender design process and design optimisation of balance of plant elements, in accordance with the requirements for the procurement of equipment and services and project bidding;
• Engage with all technical stakeholders, including internal engineering resources, technical advisors, contractors and utility/grid operator in defining the optimal technical solution;
