The Director of Environment, Health and Safety will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This corporate leader works closely with site operations teams in the implementation of EHS programs and strategies to manage, mitigate and, whenever possible, eliminate environmental, health and safety risks to employees, facilities, and communities in which the company operates.
Responsibilities:
- Develops and supports the implementation of EHS policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Establishes the strategy to manage environmental and safety compliance across all Business Units
- Develops and guides EHS system to include EHS policy, roles and responsibilities, compliance programs, training and auditing to meet OSHA, EPA, NFPA, & DOT regulations and other applicable regulations, requirements, and corporate initiatives.
- Promotes a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement through regular communication and training sessions.
- Coaches Safety Managers and assigned safety coordinators to meet compliance programs and initiatives.
- Oversees the overall investigation, notification and case management for workers’ compensation claims in the region.
- Serves as the primary EHS point of contact for workers’ compensation third party administrator(s).
- Actively plays an integral part in supporting Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC).
- Proactively drives injury free workplace through hazard recognition and risk reduction.
- Drives company-wide consistent implementation of safety training, initiatives, and programs.
- Issues monthly safety communication on safety performance. Sets annual safety monthly training calendar and safety themes.
- Oversees and directs facility security access using Aurora Keyscan or other security systems as may be installed.
- Prepares documents for senior management board meetings to include OSHA incident rate charts and alerts. Advises senior management of key safety budget initiatives.
- Directs and guides preparation of required annual environmental reports, e.g., SARA Tier II, NPDES, storm water, TRI 313, air emissions, as applicable to facility.
- Oversees safety alerts for injuries, near misses, or other incidents. Directs, prepares, and supports company-wide safety alerts and other communications as necessary.
- Directs product compliance program to include RMI Conflict Minerals and Cobalt Reporting declarations, REACH, RoHS, and others as necessary. Interfaces as necessary with legal counsel.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Engineering or EHS (Environmental, Health, & Safety), or a related field.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred or Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Environmental (REM) desired
- Experience and technical knowledge of regulatory compliance (OSHA, EPA, etc.) requirements and EHS risk management
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in EHS management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role for a multi-site manufacturing operation, preferably in the metals industry.
- Proven experience implementing effective company-wide EHS programs
- Strong ability to work, collaborate, foster trust, and confidence across multiple business units.
- Self-directed, and able to work productively on multiple initiatives simultaneously
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and not be afraid of rolling up the sleeves to deliver practical solutions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Travel Expected:
- Will be expected to travel locally between Hampshire, Elgin, Sycamore, and Bellwood, IL. Must be able to travel domestically up to 10%.
