Job Position Summary
We are looking for a Carbon Consultant within our consulting team. This individual will work within our Life-Cycle Analysis Team and Asset Development Team on helping clients to assess and implement renewable energy and low carbon projects. Our clients depend on revenue streams from the sale of emission reduction credits – the majority of which are RINs under the federal Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) or credits under California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS). However, as new emission reduction commitments are made and new low carbon fuel policies are enacted, the related compliance burden for regulated parties becomes exponentially greater. Examples of new and emerging regulations/commitments include Oregon’s Clean Fuels Program (CFP), Canada’s national CFR, the airline industry’s CORSIA program, and various ESG reporting and data management needs.
Responsibilities:
Work within a team of Carbon Consultants to advise clients in the following areas of renewable and low carbon projects:
- Training and education
- Regulatory Engagement
- Life-Cycle Analysis & Carbon Intensity Modeling
- Asset Development Consulting
- Compliance Consulting
Drafting the following common deliverables:
- Life-cycle analysis and carbon intensity modeling Technical and financial feasibility analysis for renewable energy projects including renewable natural gas (RNG), renewable diesel, renewable electricity, renewable hydrogen, and/or carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) projects.
- Technical and economic due diligence for investment into renewable energy projects.
- Market analysis of existing and new carbon markets.
- Renewable energy regulatory and compliance project scheduling
Specific Job Responsibilities:
Assist with delivery of projects within Life-Cycle Analysis Team. These projects may include carbon intensity (CI) modeling for a variety of renewable energy, biofuels, and low carbon products.
Assist with delivery of projects within EcoEngineers Asset Development Team. These projects may include technical, economic, and regulatory feasibility and analysis for:
- Renewable natural gas (RNG) projects such as landfill gas, wastewater treatment plant biogas, dairy/swine manure biogas, or food waste biogas
- Renewable diesel
- Renewable electricity
- Renewable hydrogen
- Carbon capture utilization and sequestration (CCUS)
Develop and maintain subject-matter expertise in the following clean fuels regulations areas:
- Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS)
- California Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS)
- Oregon Clean Fuels Program (CFP)
- Other national, state, local, or voluntary regulations, as applicable
Review environmental technical standards and guidelines in federal and state regulations (LCFS, RFS, CFP, etc.) for clients.
Project management of EcoEngineers consulting projects, which may include coordination and collaboration between multiple service lines.
Communicate scientific or technical information to internal and external clients through oral briefings, written documents, visual and verbal presentations, workshops, conferences, training sessions, or public hearings.
Analyze data to determine validity, quality, and scientific significance and to interpret correlations between client activities and environmental effects. Support other services lines within EcoEngineers Consulting Team including Training and Education, Regulatory Engagement, and Compliance Consulting teams.
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher with an engineering, environmental, policy, or compliance focus.
- Knowledge of, or background in, biofuel production processes, renewable energy, life-cycle analysis and techno-economic modeling.
- Experience or familiarity with carbon modeling programs like GREET, GHGenius, SimaPRO, or others.
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills are essential.
- Proficient technical writing skills.
- Interest in renewable energy, biofuels, and lower carbon products to help the world decarbonize and combat climate change.
- Advanced computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and etc.). Aptitude for learning new applications if needed.
- High degree of personal responsibility, timeliness, and organization, high competency with problem solving analytical and quantitative skills.
- Ability to work effectively on client deliverables with demanding deadlines in a team environment.
Preferences:
- At least one year of related work and project management experience.
- Experience with renewable natural gas (RNG), other biofuels, or carbon markets.
- Consulting experience.
- Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of the federal Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), California Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS), and other clean fuels regulations.
- Knowledge or exposure to renewable natural gas (RNG), ethanol, biodiesel, renewable diesel, sustainable aviation fuel, and/or other renewable biofuels.
- Experience with technical and financial feasibility analysis.
