DescriptionThe Senior Energy Management System (EMS) Analyst manages the day-to-day operations of a work group with significant impact on corporate, business unit, and department objectives. Establishes and implements business objectives, strategies, and plans while maintaining compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements. Manages and allocates financial and employee resources in support of those objectives, strategies and plans. Selects, coaches and develops employees; manages employee salaries. Implement and support company programs and policies. Establishes the work group's budget and manage associated spending within that limit.
Responsibilities
- Manage user support and client facing EMS/Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) database and other key systems used to monitor, operate and control the company's substations, generation assets and other related systems.
- Develop processes and procedures to enter and maintain network data in the EMS/SCADA database
- Develop and maintain electrical system one-line displays and one-line display standards for clear communication of real time electrical system conditions to operators
- Partner with field staff in the review of the Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) to SCADA interface for efficacy in the control and monitoring of installed electric system assets
- Troubleshoot problems with the EMS/SCADA systems; coordinate system maintenance/upgrades with other IT organizations
- Maintain compliance with BHE Renewables reliability and security standards for the EMS/SCADA and ancillary systems
- Maintain the training simulator software and assist in creating and updating training curriculum used for instruction of dispatchers and grid operators in the use of the EMS/SCADA system
- Ensure that work and projects are completed within committed time and budget and are integrated with other systems/applications
- Select technical staff, coach, develop and evaluate staff performance for maximum productivity
- Ensure adherence to Information Technology (IT) process and methodology, establishing technical direction, establishing and tracking budgets as well as coordination with other IT groups
- Chair the EMS/SCADA user collaboration committees for setting priority and managing user expectations for the system
- Perform as the technology advisor to the business for current and emerging EMS/SCADA technologies
- Liaison with operations application vendors on issues of application reliability and performance
- Judge the efficacy of services rendered by vendor staff in support of the applications
- Manage the exchange of EMS data with third-parties through Inter-Control Center Communications Protocol (ICCP) and Mailbox RTU technologies
- Identify and resolve issues with both inbound and outbound data exchanges
- Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, information technology computer science, management information systems or related technical field
- 6 years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree
- 8 years of experience in EMS/SCADA systems analysis and development, including 3 years supervisory/management responsibilities
- Experience developing and supporting EMS/SCADA systems and ancillary applications
- Knowledge of IT terms, equipment, systems, functions and major vendors
- Ability to communicate effectively with business and technical users both orally and written
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively work with a highly skilled and diverse team and build productive working relationships
- Proven ability to work within a project matrix organization
- Ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities
- Ability to work across an organization in order to achieve desired results
- Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently
