ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Main purpose of the role:
The Civil Construction Supervisor will be responsible for the successful construction of the site infrastructure, earthworks and civil works on the project. The Civil Construction Supervisor will be part of the Site team and will manage the civil scope of the EPC Contractor and liaise with the Owner’s Engineer on civil design related matters and EDFR/EDFI on company related matters.
Key responsibilities:
Health & Safety
- Provide active and demonstrable support to the HSE Officers to enforce the HSE Plan on site.
- Act as OHS Act 8.2 in the absence of the 8.1 appointee.
Environmental
- Guide and support the contractors to ensure compliance with the project EMPr’s
Electrical Construction Management
- Manages site discipline in accordance with the project electrical construction scope of work,
- Management of Balance of Plant Contractor (Electrical),
Contractor management on Electrical works
- Ensures EPC contractor complies with contract requirements,
- Attends weekly meetings with the contractor on site and provide inputs to MoM for accuracy,
- Collects daily diaries from contractors and ensures accuracy
Document management
- Reviews Contractor Method Statements
- Reviews and verifies DSTI’s
- Verifies that documents are issued as AFC
- Ensures As-built drawings are produced on completion of a section of the scope.
- Ensures all Electrical documents and drawings are properly logged in the Project Electronic Document Management System (EDMS)
- Assists the Document Controller with site-generated project documentation.
Commercial
- Supports project Planner and Contract Manager with progress measurements,
- Reviews Contractor documentation for completeness and accuracy as part of their progress payment applications,
- Assists Construction Site Manager and Commercial team with supporting document compilation for Project milestone payment claims.
Communication
- Proactive interaction with internal and external stakeholders during the construction of all electrical Works,
- Effectively communicates company values and objectives on site.
Reporting
- Fulfil construction reporting obligations - (daily, weekly & monthly),
- Support internal team with reporting and preparation of external reporting to the Client.
Quality
- Support the Quality Manager during the quality process and inspection hold points.
- Support Quality department with documentation, NCR’s and other quality related matters.
- Witness Site Acceptance Testing of major electrical components
Design and Engineering Support
- Ensure all designs are correctly implemented,
- Support Owner’s Engineer with electrical engineering designs on site,
- Review Technical Acceptance procedures from the contractors.
Eskom Self-Build Works
- Attend monthly Eskom meeting for Self-Build Works coordination and progress.
Planning
- Be knowledgeable about construction schedules, organise and supervise work at construction sites
- Ensure Project Schedule is adhered to, and project milestone dates are met, especially cardinal milestones,
- Ensure all contractors adhere to their respective project schedule milestone dates,
- Support the project team with Cold and Hot Commissioning, Grid Connection, Grid Code Testing, and COD.
Interfacing with stakeholders
- Interfacing and coordination with EPC Contractor, Environmental Control Officer, Owner’s Engineer and Eskom
- Support the ED manager with interactions with the local communities as needed,
- Liaison with the landowner(s) and local authorities on issues related to the site.
Health and Safety Responsibilities:
- Managers and supervisors carry both legal and company responsibilities for ensuring the health and safety of their employees, those under their control, and those who might be affected by the work undertaken, i.e., public, visitors and employees of other organizations. This includes ensuring risk assessments are conducted and mitigation measures are clearly communicated and understood by individuals. Managers must also ensure that individuals have the necessary understanding, competence, and application of requirements to work safely and without harming the environment.
- Employees are responsible for ensuring they fully understand the health and safety risks involved in their work activities and their responsibility to apply the controls needed to manage those risks to acceptable levels. Similarly, where work activities can have an adverse impact upon the environment, and particularly where there are legal requirements, employees are responsible for understanding those impacts and the controls they must ensure are applied.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Must-have Qualifications and Certifications:
Tertiary qualification in an Engineering or Construction field (BSc, BTech or equivalent as a minimum).
RELEVANT EXPERIENCES
Must-have years of professional experiences:
Minimum 10 years work experience as Electrical site engineer or Electrical construction supervisor, with at least 4 years’ experience on renewable projects.
Exposure and knowledge of multiple project execution will be an added advantage.
