Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 11 AM–3 PM (16 hours per week). Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential.
About the Position:
Join Blue Zone Aquarium as we prepare to open our new retail store in Chico! We're looking for an enthusiastic, dependable individual to help with store setup, aquarium maintenance, and ongoing retail operations.
Initial Store Setup Responsibilities:
- Unpacking inventory, breaking down boxes, and organizing merchandise.
- Assembling fixtures, using light hand and power tools, and installing aquarium systems.
- Setting up aquariums, filtration, lighting, and equipment.
- Assisting with painting, cleaning, and preparing the store for opening.
- Helping with fish care, water changes, and aquatic plant maintenance during the transition.
Ongoing Responsibilities After Opening:
- Providing friendly, knowledgeable customer service and assisting with retail sales.
- Feeding and caring for fish, maintaining aquatic plants, performing water changes, and cleaning aquariums.
- Keeping aquariums, equipment, displays, and the retail shop clean, organized, and well-maintained.
- Stocking shelves, organizing merchandise, and maintaining attractive retail displays.
- Assisting with local deliveries of aquarium products, livestock, and equipment.
- Performing off-site aquarium maintenance at customer locations, including homes and businesses.
Qualifications:
Aquarium experience is preferred but not required. A strong interest in aquariums, fish, and plants, along with a willingness to learn, is more important. Training will be provided.
Customer service is our top priority. We're looking for someone who is friendly, helpful, professional, and genuinely enjoys working with people.
A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record are required for driving responsibilities.
Physical Requirements:
During the initial store setup, this position will involve more physical labor, including lifting, carrying equipment, assembling fixtures, and moving merchandise. Once
the store is operational, the physical demands will decrease, but the position will still require bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
Long-Term Opportunity:
This is a permanent part-time position, not just a temporary store setup job. After opening, the role will transition to customer service, retail sales, livestock care, store maintenance, local deliveries, and off-site aquarium services.
