This position is available in our facility in Tyrone, PA and all candidates must provide for their own transportation. The individual must be punctual within a predictable working window and may occasionally travel to other locations for training and special events as needed to satisfy business requirements.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
This full-time position will oversee the implementation, use and maintenance of operational woodworking equipment in a hardwood flooring manufacturing facility. The operator will participate in the flow of the wood through our manufacturing process while assessing and taking responsibility for the speed and quality of the products being produced. The need to be able to communicate clearly with other employees in a respectful manner and work as part of a high-paced team environment, which is critical to being successful. Equipment operators must have physical strength, hand-eye coordination, attention to detail and endurance (standing for up to 5 hours at a time, lifting weight up to 40 lbs repetitively, occasionally more). Operators must also be able to concentrate on their tasks. The ability to understand and communicate information in spoken and written English is also essential. Some tools and machines are computerized, requiring technical knowledge to use. Data entry, analysis, accurate measurement and ability to communicate clearly can help operators advance in their profession. Training is provided, but independent, proficient work after training is required.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Contribute to a safe working environment by reading and understanding documentation and instructions related to the safe operation and maintenance of various equipment and pass related tests when required
- Coordinate and prepare raw materials for processing
- Start machines or equipment to begin production processes
- Load and unload items from machines and conveyors both in single instances and repetitively
- Operate machinery used in the production process with the assistance of shop assistants
- Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards
- Observe equipment operations so that malfunctions can be detected
- When qualified, perform spot adjustments and repairs in response to certain unexpected malfunctions
- Notify supervisors when irregularities in machine performance are detected
- Remove products, machine attachments, or waste material from machines
- Lift raw materials, finished products, and packed items
- Transfer finished products, raw materials, tools, or equipment between storage and work areas, by hand or using hand trucks
- Measure products to ensure conformance to specifications, record and hold responsibility for quality
- Separate products according to size or composition of materials used to produce them.
- Signal coworkers to direct them to move products during the production process.
- Clean production equipment.
- Keep workstations in clean and orderly condition with products stacked neatly and organized
- Count finished products or workpieces to track order progress.
- Actively participate in our collective effort to continually improve what we do and how we do it
We do have some basic job entry requirements, they are:
- If hired, must adhere to all company policies and procedures and other prescribed best practices/industry standards
- Personal protective equipment: including safety glasses, hearing protection, dust masks, and gloves will be provided for you and their use will be mandatory on a daily basis.
- Dependability, reliability and punctuality for scheduled work hours is essential
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment; must be willing and able to assume personal ownership of process performance
- Ability to learn new tasks and adjust to new job objectives when required to adapt to an always evolving business and production environment
- Experience in or interest in wood products, wood working, construction or mechanical equipment operation is beneficial but not required
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team, as needed
- Being coachable, learn new skills quickly, and take initiative in the interest of safely meeting and exceeding objectives
- Willingness to participate in periodic formal and informal in-house and professionally provided training courses for safety and skill development
- Background checks may be performed; results must be satisfactory to the company
Approximate Time and Effort
- 10% Equipment Prep
- 80% Equipment Operation and Material Movement
- 10% Cleanup and Maintenance
Position Schedule, Pay & Benefits
- Monday - Thursday 7AM to 6PM, including breaks
- Hourly Base Rate: $17+ per hour based on experience, non-exempt (overtime eligible), benefitted
