Overview
The Quantitative Associate will be primarily responsible for developing models that support decision making across the Revenue function at Cypress Creek Renewables. The role covers sales of renewable power to customers, management of the portfolio of solar generation assets and dispatch and optimization of battery storage assets. Reporting to the VP, Quantitative Analytics, this position will be responsible for providing analytics to maximize assets’ P&L while mitigating risk levels and drive decision making to deliver the most advantageous offtake solutions. The position will enjoy extensive opportunity to support the company’s growth by helping deliver renewable energy solutions to its customers across the country, including through the creation of innovative products. The position will provide critical analysis to help focus the Company’s customer led development strategy and product innovation. The position will help deliver the vision of the team by leveraging the analytics ecosystem to build out the ecosystem to measure, report and sensitize the positions and risk in the portfolio.
Main Responsibilities
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to define the conception of our in-house risk and quantitative frameworks
- Design and construct risk management tools used in evaluating and managing company's risk profile and exposure levels
- Develop techniques enabling Quantitative Data Management and Analysis, Advanced Analytics, Machine Learning, etc.
- Monitoring and analyzing market information to identify opportunities to maximize profitability and reduce risks, including basis, congestion, curtailment, intermittency, etc.
- Developing strategies to optimize solar generation and battery storage assets based upon economic conditions and operational constraints
- Monitor, analyze and incorporate weather and solar generation forecasts, load forecasts, generation availability, transmission outages, constraints into decision making
- Review, analyze and discuss the commercial terms of existing and upcoming PPAs, identifying the underlying risks, proposing alternatives and/or mitigation strategies
- Support the development of strategy towards short-term optimization of storage assets, involving automatic forecasting, optimization, and execution of orders in the market
- Utilize the Company’s existing and growing fleet of solar and battery storage assets to structure value added products for customers
- Support the development of innovative commercial structures to meet customer needs and to facilitate the development of solar and energy storage
- Own the pricing of offtake agreements
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including Revenue, Development, Project Finance and Solutions (Asset Management, Performance & O&M) teams
- Creating reports on an ad hoc basis
- Prepare internal analysis to drive decision making
Qualifications
- Preferred Five to seven (5-7) years of relevant experience in Competitive Energy Markets, preferably dealing with Renewable assets, experience on a power trading desk preferred
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or closely related field
- Familiar with valuation and analysis of derivatives, pricing of structured products
- Experience in the market structure, transactions, and protocols of US power markets and commodity markets more generally
- Familiar with Financial mathematics and business reporting, i.e. methodology, techniques and tools.
- Strong Technical and System understanding.
- Expertise in Programming Languages and quantitative Applications: Python, C++, C#, R, VBA, Matlab and Database Expertise (SQL).
- Knowledge of different mathematical models: artificial neural network, dynamic programming, standard operational research methods
- Analytical, ability to provide precise and solid insights, identify causes and conditions, structure action plans, and propose and explain to internal stakeholders
- Resourceful, ability to use a variety of tools, data sources, and systems; and inherent curiosity to procure and test new resources
- Able to identify and formulate risks management strategies for a variety of assets and at the portfolio level
- Strong commercial capabilities and attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal and strong communication skills
- Understanding of renewable generation technology, especially solar and battery storage
Locations: Candidate will be based out of NYC or Chicago, IL.
